Q: on a boat do you have to sand it down to bare aluminum for it to work ? the paint is good just a few rivets leak

I wasn't too impressed with the product, as it appeared to have aged on a shelf somewhere. That said, I did take the paint down to the factory primer coat, and bare aluminum in some places, but not near rivets. I used an etching primer in the bare areas, then applied the GOOP. My experience with the GOOP was that it was too thick to apply easily, even after trying to thin it some. It went on difficult, and set up too fast, but it did seal and although not a smooth finish, I painted over it and it came out ok for me, but most probably wouldn't like the finish as it is rough. good luck!
