Great value for a 3/8" impact socket set
I bought this set to complement my recent purchase of an Ingersoll Rand 3/8" butterfly impact wrench. This assortment of sockets is well suited to this size drive. The set includes both metric and english (SAE) sizes in both standard depth and deep sockets. The quality of the sockets is very good. All feature 6-pointed wells with radiused corners (Snap-On used to call this "flank drive"). This feature helps prevent distorting the corners on the bolt or nut you are turning by applying the turning force to the face of the bolt/nut slightly toward the center of the face where it's stronger that it is at the actual corner (vertex). The waist of the socket is also thru-drilled (3/16" dia holes) to accommodate those impact wrenchs that have a thru drilled drive capable of accepting a retaining pin. This is something you don't see too often, but is required for tools used by steel workers who many be using a tool at high elevations over others below them on a worksite. The sockets have what appears to be a silk-screened size and product part number label that looks like silver on a flat black oxide socket body. Unfortunately, some of the sockets in my set have labels that look more like dark gray on black. They are legible, but just barely. Others are bright silver and easy to read, even in poor light. The sizes are also moulded in raised letters into the socket wells in the case. But, of course, they are only useful if you keep the right sized socket in the well and don't mix them up. The kit comes with an average quality blow-moulded plastic case that measures 15"x11"x3". The only problem with this case is that the hinges on the back spine and on the two plastic latches are just thin plastic strips that will likely suffer from fatigue stress failure after repeated use. The bottom line is that for $49 you are getting a large number of well made chrome/moly impact sockets. In my opinion this is an excellent value and hence the 5-star rating. The only downside is the quality control on the lettering and the fact that since these sockets do not have a chrome finish, they will probably rust if you leave them out in the rain. But, come to think of it, I'm not sure I've seen impact sockets with chrome finishes. So maybe it's just the way they have to be made to withstand the hammering of an impact wrench. Fox River, the seller, was prompt and filled the order as expected. I would order from them again.

Swivel adapter aside, this is a good set!
Pretty nice impact set. I bought this set to go in the truck along with the Milwaukee 3/8 Drive M18 Impact gun. Has every socket you'll need for probably about 95 percent of the backyard fixes that will spring up on occasion. As others have said, the swivel adapter is just a straight up joke. I literally laughed when I first opened the case and saw it. Buy a separate adapter though and this becomes an amazing set for the price. Sockets are well made and strong. Case holds everything well, so you're not going to open it after it's been bouncing around your truck box for a month to find your sockets all over the place. The plastic hinges do look like they will fail eventually (haven't yet after some fairly common abuse), but a couple of 2 dollar hinges and a few machine screws and you'll be back in business. Good set, at a great price.

Poor Q.A.
Poor quality finish. Some of the socket finishes look great, others have a finish that looks like it's been sanded and left out in the rain for a couple of days. Poor quality control - first set came missing some sizes, duplicate sizes of others. This was a new item, not an open box item. Hope replacement set has better quality finish, and all of the correct sized sockets listed on the label. Does have nice price for set (if it can include all of the sockets listed).

Very Good Value Complete Impact Socket Set
These sockets are made in Taiwan, which typically means higher quality than China. They are relatively thin walled for getting into tight places. The broaching appears to be of high quality and drives on the face of the fastener, not the edge. This should help prevent rounded fasteners. They are double marked(stamped and etched)in case the etched markings get worn off. There are no skipped sizes as with other brands. The universal joint socket uses a peened through pin and should hold up to serious use. This is a very nice set for the money. You could buy five sets of these for the cost of some other big name brands.

I bought this set for home because of the price, but these sockets are definetly of professional quality.
Because I'm a mechanic by trade I have to have my snap-on & matco tools at work so I'm always finding out that I need a tool at home that is at work. I'm not rich and can't afford to buy another snap-on tool set but I need a set at home. My matco dealer sells some ATD tools off his truck and although they looked good his price wasn't. I saw this set and thought I would give them a try. I have been putting together a 99 grand prix for my son and have used most of the sockets in the set. So let me just say this they are high quality low price tools, I only have two things I would like to see, neither of which are a big deal. The etching is tough to see and the universal is an older design that has two pins instead of the newer 4 pin design that allows the socket to work at more of an angle. I will definetly be purchasing more of ATD tools..

Great 3/8" socket set for the money. CroMoly.
WHY I BOUGHT THIS: I normally use 1/2" drive sockets and go to 1/4" for the tight spots. This set fills in the "in between" and will be used as my default "road set" when traveling. You can use an impact socket just about anywhere you can use a socket, and impact sockets are in general some the toughest sockets available. These are CroMoly steel, the precise 41xx alloy is unknown. This is a very inclusive set, with Standard SAE deep and shallow, Metric deep and shallow, a low articulation swivel adapter and and one extension. The downside: The black oxide coating nor the CroMoly found on ANY impact set does not have the "rust resistance" hard chrome has. Per socket weight is higher due to heavy wall construction. WHY I DID NOT GIVE THIS 5 STARS: The set is made in China, so someone in the US pays for these with a job. Don't expect warranty. The blow-molded case has those crappy hinges that you KNOW will fatigue and crack apart. Some of the silk-screened lettering is poorly applied. I like the price on these compared to buying ANY socket sets "guaranteed" by any other manufacturer. Note that if you don't work in an established shop, getting replacement tools for Snap-On, Mac, Cornwell and others (who I hold in high regard) can be a fiasco. Just try it. Now compare the cost. PFFFF. Bottom line: Solid value, competent manufacturing, just don't leave them out in the wet weather.

suprisingly good
I bought this set before i started a mechanical intership at a dealer. I needed cheap tools quick and at a low price. I ordered this set almost two years ago and not a single piece has broken. I have used this set quite a bit in the last two years. Very happy with the results. Definitely a good buy for DIY'ers.

Excellent pick
Alright, so mechanic's know that Matco and Snapon make great tools. However, there are other companies out there that you can substitute for many tools, and ATD is perfect for sockets. I cannot recommend the swivel joint, since it is rather weak, but I have no other complaints with the rest of the sockets. They have withstood not only the abuse of a 3/8" impact gun, but even that of a 1/2" impact gun. Moreover, it is far cheaper, and will save you at least $150 compared to the identical item from Snapon. To summarize, buy this set, and then buy a swivel joint you trust. :)

Universal pin snapped after 4 days of use in shop pros vs cons
cons first, im not pleased about this - broke the 3/8 impact universal on the 4th day of using this set. i use this set with my beat up gutless SK 3/8 air impact. thats the gun i grab for teeny bolts and under the hood type stuff. if that gun doesnt break it loose a quick nudge with a ratchet gets it easily. im trying to really emphasize how weak the gun im using is here..Black finish is already gone on my 10 mm and 13mm shallow sockets... finidh is scratched in places on the rest from minimal use, like I said less then 4 days of use. more pissed off about the universal as it is the ONLY reason I bought this set and not other sets from brands I trust serves me for cheaping out I suppose. The pin flew out from universal and almost got me in the eye. never had that happen before the sockets themselves seem okay. The finish is nice but zero for durability. I want to be specific the pin came out and amazon is sending me a new set free of charge next day shipping and once I receive the new set I must ship back the whole set but they do provide the return label you just have to print it.... kind of sucks for amazon and myself having to do this for one tiny peice but the only thing that saves this is how hassle free it was to arrange the replacement. pros this set does not skip any sizes. that's important need your 10,13,15,17,19 for most cars but you don't want to not have the 12, 14 or 16 or whatever. they are on alot of different cars. The finish is nice but comes off very quickly ... alarmingly quickly in my own opinion ( I'm a. master craft guy not a snap on guy for the most part) the sockets themselves and extensions seem to be not too bad. The metal is awful soft. mashed the bottoms of a few of the sockets from wracking with a 2 lb hammer.. I know that's not the proper use but you'd figure it would be a hard enough tool steel to not get so mashed up. and yes I understand chrome sockets are glass hardness and impact sockets are tempered to be less hard slightly to prevent shattering. I'm aware of blacksmithing and metallurgy practices and the difference of steel, hardness ect ect. I'm a professional this is not a matter of opinion but a matter of fact. verdict. good purchase for the price for the most part. the set overall is not too bad. don't buy if your going to really count on this set. would also recommend welding the damn pin in the universal joint if your so inclined as I am. apparently the manufacturers don't weld it in like they are supposed to. I'm hoping it was just a dud I got. my new replacement I've already had to tap the pin back in. Once when I received the replacement ( as a precaution) and again today as I noticed it was maybe 1/16th inch out the one side further then before I may just weld the damn thing but then there is the whole possibly voiding my warranty and what not. regardless of being a licensed welder I'm sure that does not matter to the company
