Q: How similar is this game to above and below? are they different enough to warrant having both? we love above and below. thanks!

In my opinion they are not even similar. The game mechanics are completely different. The artwork in both is great, but that's about all. Islebound is a little meatier game, but is much lighter on the story telling, there is some favor text, but is often ignored. If you like A&B for the gameplay then I recommend Islebound, if you're looking for another story telling game, get Near and Far by the same designer.
