Excellent alternative to Ross-Tech VCDS
Excellent scanner to have in the glovebox. Beats the price of buying a full Ross-tech license, plus no computer needed. Works perfectly on my Audi B7, even does long coding! Updating is a bit tricky, but not always needed.

Very nice
Great tool so far, very convenient. The owners manual could use a little work but other than that, as long as it lasts, no complaint here!

Excellent tool for VW owners.
This tool worked perfectly for me. Thus far I have performed the following on my 2003 VW Golf TDI* retrieved the immo code* re-coded the radio, which the previous owner had a VW dealer replace and they neglected to code it correctly* performed key adaptation - previous owner's mechanic changed the ECU but only adapted ONE key, so now all three keys work. Note - both remotes worked, only the engine immobilizer key adaptation needed be performed with this car as two of the keys would start the car but it would immediately stall.* performed comfort module adaptation to change how the locks work with the remote and with vehicle motion, mainly to reduce unnecessary door lock actuator wear* other adjustments and general code readingOne thing of note - don't buy this expecting to use it for TDI mechanical IP timing. Also, prepare to spend a few hours familiarizing yourself with it. While it is fairly self explanatory, you can mess up the car you're working on if you don't know what you're doing. Read A LOT before attempting anything, and approach every interaction under your car's electronic hood with a clear mind and enough time to keep you from feeling hurried.

Just buy OBD11 and save yourself frustration
Provided manual is useless. Online support and software update is non-existent. It is ok to perform basic reading. Spend a little more and buy OBD11

If you have a VW or Audi you need this scanner.
This scanner worked great on a used 2001 VW Golf I bought that was having some engine and transmission issues. I was able to diagnose the specific sensors that were bad and replace them, making the car run great.

Adequate, but primitive
The functionality is adequate for a VAG-COM type device. The user interface is primitive. Customer support is non-existent, from the manufacturer or seller. The documentation is not useful. This device can provide functionality similar to the registered version ($) of VCDS-Lite from Ross-Tech, at about half the price. It is a very big handheld, with a small low-resolution display and clumsy user interface navigation via five large buttons. Basic operation is similar to the VCDS software, so documentation and tutorials for that software is helpful for using this device. The latest firmware (download) is quite old, and when I reported a bug via email, the manufacturer never responded. I am skeptical of their quality assurance, and hesitate to perform any critical adaptations. Read-only operations and fault codes reset work fine.I returned this item and replaced it with an ODBeleven PRO wireless dongle, which works via an Android app. The ODBeleven has favorable reviews on YouTube. There is no cable, the UI is modern, and it’s easy with Android to record or snapshot the screen. For an extra $10, it’s a huge improvement over the Xtool.

The one click update was straightforward to download and install ...
The one click update was straightforward to download and install. The serial number includes entire string VAG401-xxxxx (don't omit the VAG401- it begins with ... no registration is necessary). Although the update isn't all that recent, it more than meets my needs. This will provide the login PIN needed for ECU or dash cluster swaps and since that isn't provided by VCDS or VAG-COM, this fills a need sidestepping all the virii infected and/or pirated payware tools. The screen appears to have no backlight, but it gets the job done. I bought it for an automatic to manual swap in a MK4 Jetta TDI

It’s a legitimate VCDS alternative, takes patience though.
Product is 100% legit. People having issues either don’t know how to use basic electronics/computers or are being impatient. Perform a software update before doing anything. Go to xtools website, xtooltech dot com -> service&support -> download update tool. Connect micro SD card to your computer using the provided adapter, then update the software. Not every functionality works for every car. I bought this specifically to clear an airbag light. It takes the scanner a good 90 sec to 2 min to connect with some systems, so be patient. Another resource is Ross-Tech website, download their software and use it as a reference/guide. It will help you interact with the Vag system using this scanner. This is an extremely powerful tool for a great price if used correctly. I was skeptical at first but it’s the real deal.
