Math Practice, Grade 2

Great for building confidence
Bought this to help my son gain confidence in maths and to reinforce what he's learned in school. I don't think it matters that the approach is different to that which he's learned in school because not everyone's brain works in the same way and it's a useful tool to demonstrate that fact. Hopefully he'll be able to find ways of doing the calculations that make sense to him and maths will become a less daunting subject than it is at present. I feel that in class he goes along with the crowd and can perform the operations that he is taught but that he often lacks the reasoning to work out why he's doing something, or if there is a different way of doing something. He doesn't particularly like working through the books because he feels maths is too hard so I find the promise of a treat on completion of a book is enough of an incentive and I think already his confidence and his competence are improving. The books build up gradually to become more complex in what they ask you to do and each section is broken down into short examples using pictures and puzzles which get you to practice the operations involved.

Great for ideas
Very useful in my year 2 classroom. I use it for ideas and projecting onto the IWB for modelling purposes. Yes the paper is thin but it hasn't caused any problems.

Homeschooler.
I love how this book connects the dots and teaches how to think rather than what to think. Maths is now my daughters favourite subject.

Nothing amazing
But underwhelming. Not the best Singapore maths book I've come across.
