My Big Girl Bed: A Princess Polly book

Simple story yet really effective
This is the third book in the Princess Polly series that we’ve bought my 2 year old to help her understand and cope with new changes and they have been brilliant. This story follows Princess Polly as she wakes up in her cot and learns that she will be moving into a new big girl bed. She goes shopping for a new bed and linens, then helps her parents put away the cot and put together the new bed. It acknowledges that she feels sad and excited at the same time which is great as it helps my daughter talk about these conflicting feelings too. It’s made her really excited about getting a new bed which is also fab as her baby sister will be moving into her old cot and we want the experience to be really positive. The only thing that doesn’t make this a 5 Star book is that the button makes the same cheering sound as other Princess Polly books we own, we were hoping it would be something different.I’m a mum of 2 who does lots of research and relies on reviews to help me choose the best products for my family. If you found my review helpful I’d appreciate if you clicked the helpful button below to let me know, thanks!

Useful book to help the transition
We first tried to move our Daughter into a toddler bed in January when she was just about to turn 2. It didn’t go well so back into a cot she went. She’s now nearly 2 and a half and we wanted to try again so we started to try preparing her a bit more and purchased this book around 2 weeks before the big move. She loved the book, especially the sound button and the first night reading it to her she said she wanted a big bed just like Princess Polly. She’s been in her big bed two days now and it’s been so much smoother this time round.I’ve given the book 4 stars simply because it describes Polly jumping on the new bed when it’s just been built which in my opinion is unnecessary and a slightly foolish thing to mention to an excitable 2 year old. I knew about this bit before due to reading these reviews so I skipped it. Why make your life harder?! It is also disappointing that the book doesn’t mention the importance of staying in bed (half the battle!) so I added a line in myself when I read it and so far, so good.Overall I would recommend getting this book and I will definitely be getting the potty training one in the next few months.

Worked a treat
Read for a couple of nights pre the change to the big bed. Our toddler can be nervous but is happy with change as long as she’s prepared. The book helped with this perfectly. Not all completely relevant as we didn’t buy a new bed as they do in the book, we converted a cot-bed.We armed our toddler with her toy tool kit to ‘help’ Daddy with the construction, as the book includes a part where the bed is put together.Would recommend to help ease the transition.

Great help to transition
My daughter loves this book, and even though she is back in her big bed every night, she requests this book.Great for the transition from cot to bed, mattress to bed or even reducing how much your child shares your bed.

Good if your child is transitioning from a cot to a bed.
I like Princess Polly books - the potty one was great for both my daughters when potty training. This one would be good for a child transitioning from a cot. However we were transitioning from a Montessori style mattress on the floor (along with spending half the night in our bed) and my daughter didn't really identify with what Polly was going through.
