Great guilty-pleasure movie with the girls.
This movie takes me back! I first watched it back in circa 2003-- my junior year of high school-- when my best friend and I used to have movie marathons at each other's houses for hours on end. This was one of our favorites, and even today, it still makes me laugh until my sides hurt. I was so excited that it was available for instant play rental; it was like a trip down memory lane.Part of the reason I enjoyed this movie so much is that it isn't a typical "chick flick." The women are independent, aggressive, and unafraid to express their sexuality. They go out and hook up with men just for the sake of "fun," not concerned with finding "true love" or becoming too attached. In other words, these women are doing what has always been socially acceptable for men to do. I think that this is why the film did not sit so well with some people: because I think American society is still hesitant to embrace a sexually autonomous woman who is out for "Mr. Right Now" as opposed to "Mr. Right."At the same time, though, the film also reaches a "middle ground" between sexually aggressive independent women and hopeless romantic women with dreams of settling down. [SPOILER ALERT!] The women eventually admit that while they enjoy going out and having fun with no strings attached, it is also nice to settle down once they find a good guy that they can truly love. That is another reason why I like this movie: because while these women don't necessarily conform to traditional expectations of women's proper sexual behavior, they also acknowledge that there is nothing wrong with settling down. I think that this is realistic and reasonable for most women who value their sexual independence, but at the same time are open to the possibility of finding true love with that one person who can complete them.Is this is the most amazing, profound, thought-provoking film ever made? No, definitely not. But that does not change the fact that it is a very fun and funny movie that is perfect for a night in with the girls. Seriously, just put on your pajamas, mix some margaritas, order a pizza, and have a girl's night with it. Make a drinking game out of it. Quote the dialogue and sing along with the "Penis Song." Stop taking life seriously for the night and just have fun. In my opinion, that is what this movie is really all about. It may not be worthy of an academy award, but that doesn't mean that you can't have fun with it.

The only version of this film you should watch!
I bought it used because I felt nostalgic about this silly movie. This version of the film is the one that played in European cinemas and has some scenes that were deemed a little too “risqué” for the US. It was fun to revisit this no matter how outdated some of the comedy is. The disc was kinda scratched up which was a huge bummer, but at least it played fine.

For what it's worth
I liked the movie. I related to Christina's (Cameron Diaz) character when I would go out with my straight friends and be a wing woman only to ditch the guys later. I told myself her character would make a great lesbian...then I saw the scene aha. I laughed at how crude it was.

Edited version- missing parts
I just assumed I was buying the whole movie, including the song “You’re too big…” But no. No song. I want to return it but I’m not allowed to since I watched some… trying to find that song! This is NOT what I thought I was buying. (Actual movie is awesome)

“What’s up with you?” [Courtney]
In this 2002 RomCom Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz) is a free spirited player and a user of men in the swinging singles market. When Christina and Courtney (Christina Applegate) return home they find their friend Jane (Selma Blair) has broken up with her boyfriend and take her out to a dance club where Christina meets Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane) and it’s obvious the two like one another, but can either of them change their ways to give love a chance? This is a fun, stupid and ridiculous movie that proves to be highly entertaining. The comedy is mainly sitcom, the ladies room and the dry cleaners are two great examples. The remainder is mainly the intimate banter that only close friends can pull off. There are also some hilarious great twists to many song ‘standards’.The single disc goes to main menu offering special features [commentary, day in the life, politically erect], trailers, scene selection, audio set up [English or French], play and subtitles [English, French Arabic dutch, hindi].Don’t go into this with a serious outlook, treat it as frivolous goofy fun and you’ll have a good time but it can appear crude at times and the irreverent language is sexually frank with a lot of implied sex, but no nudity, but I wouldn’t recommend seeing this with grandma.

Not as good on second viewing.
I saw this when it first came out and liked it, but on second viewing, I'm not really that impressed. This sort of story is usually focused on the guys and its a nice twist to have the main characters as ladies behaving badly. The highlights are the "You're too big etc" song number, the road trip that Cameron and Christina go on and Peter's trip to the driving range.I thought the male lead was a weak choice and the script does fizzle out as the story nears its conclusion. Add to that that the standard stereo type that everyone is just looking for real love turns out to be the goal, and everything becomes pretty familiar.Worth a look, but not one of the great "battle of the sexes" comedies.

Outrageously funny!!
This is a gem, and I have no idea why it apparently was a flop and went "straight to video". It might be because the humour is very naughty, and American audiences tend to be very prudish unlike in the UK. It is a scream, and I have never seen anything like it before. The performances are wonderful, and if you liked "Bridesmaids" or "The Heat" you will probably love this one.

A waste of money and talent.
What was the director trying to do? What it a rom-com, a comedy, a musical or a mixture of all three? Some of the 'jokes' were in extremely bad taste - the dry-cleaner scene and the song in the restaurant are good examples. I like Cameron Diaz and is a good rom-com actress as shown in 'Holiday' and Christina Applegate and Selma Blair are quite good but Roger Kumble really should go back to college and take Comedy in Film 101. The story was not great but it could have been watchable. The story has been told by many other directors quite well but this was a mess. This was a waste of money and a waste of talent.

The Sweetest Thing
Very good film, made me laugh out loud and nice to see Cameron Diaz in one of her earlier roles I hadn't watched before. The standout for me was Christina Applegate who is brilliant at the comedy roles but the three leads together worked well. Made for easy viewing and loved the song the three of them did together, always makes me laugh!
