Vigilant Personal Protection Systems, the market leading brand in the United States in personal alarms, has created the perfect customer-suggested self defense personal alarm for use with key chains, backpacks and purses. The PPS-42 is the smallest alarm from Vigilant, while delivering the loudest 135dB sound below hearing damage in the United States. The PPS-42 was engineered based on Vigilant customer reviews. We kept the rip cord activation that made Vigilant alarms successful, but added a separate key chain bag clip to make it easier to carry without the risk of accidental activation. Customers told us to make it lighter and louder, and the PPS-42 is the lightest and loudest alarm we make. Customers told us to add more colors, so we made it in blue, yellow, black and white. Customers also told us to make it small, so we put the entire powerhouse into one of the smallest alarms ever introduced in the United States. The PPS-42 is designed to handle the rugged demands of being carried every day by busy people with an unintended need for self defense. It's small enough to forget it is there until you need it (weighs less than one ounce), but loud enough at 135dB to trigger an emergency response from anyone in the vicinity. Attach it to your key ring or clip it to the outside of a backpack. It is small, lightweight and ready to deploy with one pull of the rip cord. It is designed to eliminate accidental activation, because the rip cord is separate from the key chain. Pulling the Help Cord activates the alarm, and the only way to silence the alarm again is by replacing the grenade style pin.The PPS-42 from Vigilant is available in Black, Blue White and Yellow. It comes pre-loaded with replaceable LR44 alkaline batteries which will last up to a year on standby. Available individually or for a limited time in a value priced 2-Pack. Vigilant Personal Protection Systems and Help Cord are trademarks of Robinhood Digital, LLC.

My personal opinion of this alarm is that it's an OK alarm at best, though I would NOT ever trust my life ...
I've been collecting and testing weaponry and tactical equipment for many years now and I'm a big fan of the personal alarms. My personal opinion of this alarm is that it's an OK alarm at best, though I would NOT ever trust my life or anyone else's to this specific alarm.Cons:The one I ordered had a short somewhere so it doesn't always come on.The noise is not very loud, though is comparable to similar alarms like the Rain two tone alarm system. It feels very cheap and toy like.Pros:The shape and size of the alarm is convinient.Very small, about 1inch.For it's size and price it is what was expected.Footnote: Don't base your opinion of this company by this one product. This same company sells slightly larger Vigilant personal alarms that work extremely well.

Stay Safe
My daughter (16) just had a scary encounter at a parking lot of local McDonald's; a few minutes away from our house, right by the exit of a major Interstate. I can think of number of situation where she could have been kidnapped in a flash, and would have never found her. Immediately, I purchased this personal alarm and small Mace, and started talking about how to be aware of surroundings when she is out. How Human Trafficking is a real problem in our city, and how to protect herself from potentially dangerous situation. I chose this personal alarm because it comes with a hook where she can dangle on a belt loop, and the alarm is very easy to activate: Just pull the strap, and the pin will come out. I gave one to my daughter, and the other to my son. I like this personal alarm since it is louder than mine, which I purchased when I was a college student over a decade ago. The personal alarm won't guarantee their safety, but everyone should carry one. I also ordered canned air horn to keep on in our cars, as part of our safety kit.

Awesome Twofer
This item caught my eye, for two reasons. First, there are two. One for my daughter and one for me. Secondly, I like the activation pull-pin, instead of the button. My daughter is a tiny woman, and has two babies. I have noticed how long it takes her to get both kids strapped into their cockpit-style car seats. While doing so, she is bent over with her head in the car. It would be a simple matter for someone bent on kidnappong to just give her a push, and she'd be helpless on the floor of the back seat, an extremely disadvantageous position. She would never leave her kids behind, so she'd be a sitting duck for becoming easily overpowered and made to stay.Enter this little gadget. I have insisted VERY emphatically that she clip it onto her purse handle. The noise it makes is super loud and quite scary. All it takes is a light pull to dislodge the pin I'm order to trigger the obnoxious alarm. (And stopping is super simple; just replace the pin.) In almost any place, it would attract attention instantaneously. There is a high probability that a would-be evil doer wouldn't hang around to see who gets a look at him.I liked the idea of a pull pin, because I've read many reviews of push button styles being very easy to trigger the alarm. The buttons can be super sensitive, such that brushing it up against you sets if off. This is so loud that it's something that you wouldn't want to set off unless you mean to. Again, LOUD! Think dogs baying, babies screaming, and people shooting you the stink eye with their fingers in their ears!) and both her little ones love to push buttons...I put the second one on my own purse strap. I live alone in a metropolitan area and occasionally, I have to go out at night. Parking garages and stairwells/elevators give me the creeps. I have my hand on the alarm at all times, and it helps me feel as if I'm not totally helpless. This is an excellent value. Buy one for your girlfriend, your wife, your mom, or your elderly relative. And don't forget to keep one, just for you!

hard to replace batteries
Must remove teeny tiny screws from the back of the unit to replace batteries. Not for the nearsighted. I returned.

Works exactly as advertised
I bought 4 as gifts for the women in my family. Hopefully they will never need to use one. Of course I tested it, it is very loud, I think it will notify people nearby of a problem, hopefully they will help.
