I did not use this as intended, but I should have seen the desired result. My FL water is very hard. I filled a mesh bag with the gravel and put it into an aquarium filter, sitting on a 30 gal aquarium. After a couple of weeks of use, my water parameters are the same. With the addition of baking soda, my PH is neutral, my KH is high, and my GH is very high, at the end of the chart, with no change after using the gravel.

I weighed the gravel and it actually weighs more than the amount stated by the seller. I am sure everyone would be okay with that. I washed the gravel a few times before adding it to my water softener unit as part of my do it yourself project to replenish the unit. The wash does turn a bit milky so I would recommend washing the gravel well.

Product contained a lot of dirt. Had to rinse under running water for over 10 minutes to get the water to run clear. Product looked like that it was scooped up from a river or stream bed without any attempt to clean it. I used to work for an open pit sand and gravel mine where we ran the material through a barrel washer to clean and size the product... it's not that difficult.

Perfect to give my outdoor fire pit a clean look. This size covers a base of about 30 inches round, but not very deep. I will get 2 next time.

It works well, its buried in the softener and the softener is not clogging.
