It's 12 inches long and 3 inches wide.

Q: Will this filter suck in small fish like guppies?

The whole body of guppies would not be sucked up, but their long fins may be. You can adjust the flow rate. I am using it by rolling up the sponge filter, which is included in the kit, with thin and fine filter sheets (50 micron pore size). In other words, I am using the sponge just as a biofilter.
