Harry's Bar: The Life and Times of the Legendary Venice Landmark

I was recently at Harry's Bar in Venice so I was very excited to read all about Harry's Bar and the fascinating people who have visited, eaten, and imbibed over the many years of its existence. To me, the stories he tells are very interesting. All about the characters who frequented the bar & short stories about who they are & how they lived. The ecentric, the wealthy, the famous, the oddballs, the wierdos, etc, etc. I loved the book but not sure if you never heard of Harry's Bar or have never visited, if it would hold much interest for you. If on the other hand, you consider yourself a traveler, an adventurer, a student of human nature, you might just surprise yourself and love this book.

This is a great read...at times you feel as though you are standing in the room listening to the conversations...very informative and inspiring. This is a real rags to riches through incredible times. Aspiration, inspiration,serendipity and bloody hard work carries the reader to the ultimate success of this family. Great book, great people, great place.

Harry's Bar was opened in 1931. My friend was born in 1931 and will be celebrating her 90th birthday soon. She has visited Harry's Bar! I skimmed the book and loved it - and I've been to Harry's Bar too so it brought back a lot of memories. This is a win-win gift. I'm thrilled I found it!

I was hoping for a book about Harry's Bar, not about the owners philosophy or time spent in Manhattan. I was hoping for more.

It did not focus on Hemingway. The story focuses on the owners, the history and the atmosphere of Venice. I would definitely read it again!

having enjoyed the bar ,the Bellinis , the carpaccio , the low key elegance of this place all captured in the understanding of the Roots and the Reality of a special place, delightfully portrayed in the book . easy to read and quite absorbing . First Prize visit the famous place, or read the story. with all its lessons of passion for serving people and adding real environment entertainment and great simple eating.. whetted my appetite for a revisit in the future.

Okay, but really not more than a magazine article. So now I know how the bar started. And so what.

I enjoyed learning about how Harry’s bar was started and the stories.
