Coolerguys 120mm USB Fan with Cabinet Mounting Bracket

Small and quiet while getting the job done.

I bought this fan set to extract hot hair out of a cuboard I had put some data equipment into. Initailly it was sent with the wrong design on the grill covers but the support from Coolerguys was excellent and they posted me out some replacement grills super fast. I don't mind when things arent quite right but the customer support makes up for it. Would buy from Coolerguys again.

Other than cutting a nice 5" hole, installation of this fan took about 10 mins. I swapped the grill so that the fan would be pulling air from the cabinet and plugged it right into the XBox One USB port. Keeps the cabinet at room temperature (or even a bit below!). I've got the XBox set to Instant On so the fan is running continuously, but it's really so quiet that it's barely audible unless you're up close. Combined with an IR repeater it allows me to keep the electronics out of sight.

On the bottom of the instruction page the Coolerguys have added the comment "We are continually improving and updating our products."Right out of the package I could see this was true because the mounting plate was metal and not the expected plastic. That is a definitely an improvement.The USB connector was a double ended pass through buss instead of just the single plug which means the USB socket on my AVR is still available to plug in an iPod or other USB device. That is definitely and improvement.It is dead air quiet, don't know if thats an improvement, but it does mean it will have no affect on my listening or viewing pleasure.So why only a 4 and not a 5 star rating, simple, I haven't had a chance to actually install it and find out if it will pass enough air to keep my entertainment cabinet cool, but it is sitting on top of my AVR and pushing air through slight opening I have on the cabinet door. I'll actually install it this weekend and post a followup after I've let it run for a week or two. For now lets just say I am not disappointed and I am more than happy to up the rating should it meet all of my expectations.October Update:Well it took me a little longer to get back here then I expected. The fan has been installed and running 24x7 since about 2 days after my preliminary review. Installation was easy, the fan is quiet and may cabinet is cool, or at the very least my cabinet is significantly cooler than before I installed the fan.My cabinet is approximately 7 cubic feet, fully enclosed wood on sides, top, bottom and back. Glass door on front with very few ports for ventilation. While I haven't put a thermometer in it, my best guess is that it is running about 50% cooler and is only warm vs VERY warm to hot before the fan. I have the fan placed in the middle, back, directly behind my hottest component and above the next hottest.When I walk by the cabinet in the middle of the night and there are no other sounds I can hear it, but just barely. Basically noise IS NOT a factor and cooling is.If I need another one, I won't hesitate to buy the exact same unit again.Bumping my review from 4 stars to 5.
