Fills an important gap in racing history
While the companion volume on the Ferrari 312s of the same era arguably added relatively little to an already well-know story, this book is more important, since almost nothing, to my knowledge, has appeared in print about these significant French prototypes.Every model, including the little known MS640 and MS680 that are not mentioned in the title, is covered in pretty good detail, with every race appearance described, and the photos are generally well chosen, though (not through any fault of the author or publisher) some are pretty lousy images. And as with the earlier book, author McDonough got to drive one of the Matras, and his tale of the adventure makes for fun reading. The next book in this series will cover the Gulf Mirages, another series of cars that have been given short shrift. I'm looking forward to it!

Another great entry in the WSC Series
With "Matra Sports Cars," McDonough has documented an important chapter in a transitional period of endurance sportscar racing. Straddling the era between the brutality of the likes of the Porsche 917 and the aerodynamics and sponsor's money domination of the modern era.As typifies this series of books, this volume is a truly exhaustive history detailing virtually every race appearance and giving great insight into the history and development of these important cars.Highly recommended.

a good history
This is one of a Series of books on famous Sports cars of a certain era, and a great firts hand history it is too, written with great attention to detail, humour and best of all, rare photos. I highly recommend this book and the others in this series such as the Mirage/MirageFords/Ferrari's etc, do yourself a favour the books are worth it for the driver anecdotes and photos alone.

Matra Sports Cars
Well reasearched and written. The WSC Giants series are great value for money. The photos are for the most part from rarely or never seen photographers, so bring new interest to their subjects. This is a great series on subjects that have had little or no coverage over the years. At this price they are a true bargin in todays world of ever increasing book prices. Expand your racing research libary today.

Referance Book
Needed a book on Matra to familiarize myself with this type of race car for the time period. Fits well into my library and had been a well read reference for my collecting of cars.

Outstanding Research on a Relatively Obscure Race Car
There cannot be very many people who want a book on the detailed history of Matra race cars -- but there are a few of us, and we need to thank the author for what is obviously a labour of love. Author McDonough is very knowledgable and does excellent research. Thus this book is a necessary addition to any serious auto racing library.

French for fascinating
The author's interest in Matra, and his attention to detail, shine through in this tightly focussed book. It also provides an illuminating snapshot of the late 60s and early 70s racing scene, and its drivers. Well worth a read.
