I bought this dog crate for my 33" tall golden retriever so that he could be shipped via airline to his new home. He is 80 lbs but is very tall, so this is the only airline approved crate that would fit his height. The crate is very solid, and very big (it makes for quite an eyesore just sitting around the house). It is very easy to set up with or without the instructions, but cumbersome to move around once it's been assembled (it weighs close to 50 lbs). The reason why I took 1 star off is because the opening/closing mechanism is slightly cumbersome, but it does get the job done and seems very secure.

Lightweight with a large handle, this kennel is very portable indeed. It easily accommodated our 17 pound cat (I know, but she's supremely unpleasant on a diet). If you are using them on a long car trip, it is very easy to thread a seat belt though the handle to secure the kennel (not a crash tested method, fortunately). We store ours in a hot attic (and have for years): no durability issues so far.

I use this for taking the cat to the vet. I had a soft sided luggage type carrier but he outgrew that. I wanted a substantial carrier or a cardboard box that I could throw away. This is well constructed and uses metal bolts and plastic thumb screws (almost wing nuts) to fasten it together not flimsy plastic clips as I had previously seen.Assembly took about three minutes. It ships in two pieces (three if you include the door) and you simply put the top on the bottom and fasten the six bolts. Extra bolts and screws are included.

I ordered this kennel to take my (somewhat large) cats to the vets. I have a Petmate Vari Kennel the same size, but the side vents are stainless steel - makes the carrier very sturdy, but heavy. This kennel has the same dimensions but because the side vents are just cut into the plastic, it weighs about a pound and a half less than the Vari Kennel so it's not as heavy to carry. You can get other kennels that are a bit longer, but not as high for the door opening. I find this size works great because for one thing the cats like to be able to just walk in, and not stuffed through a smaller opening. Also, it provides them with the ability to sit up in the carrier while waiting in the vets office or riding in the car. The squeeze latch on the door is a sturdy one, hard for an animal to escape with this kind of door closure. Wish it came in some sassier colors, but this one is okay because at least it isn't the same old bland light gray like most carriers.One important point to notice: this is not airline approved because to be used for shipping a live animal it needs to have vents on all four sides. This model does NOT have vent holes on the back, just the two sides and, of course, the door.I also really like the fact that the top and bottom are held together with screws and wingnuts!!! Those other kennels with the flip handles break and you risk losing the cat (or small dog) when it comes apart (plus you can't replace the broken piece). This model with the screws comes apart easily so you can either clean it out thoroughly, or choose the direction that the door swings open, either from left or right side, depending on your preference. They provide lots of extra screws and wingnuts in case you lose any. When I'm waiting at the vets, I always give a little extra tug to the wingnuts as some do loosen up after using - especially if your pet squirms and rocks the carrier back and forth while you're carrying it.I think Petmate makes the best carriers - and you can't find them in many pet stores. Thankfully, Amazon carries them and delivery was really fast.

This doesn't have those plastic clips to hold it together, it has actual screws with plastic wing nuts, I feel it is more sturdy that the other type, it came with extra screws so I could even drill some holes and add some extra screws for even better stability, the latch works well and can't be opened by any Houdini cats... I have a 14 lb cat that will fit nicely into this.

Excellent for shipping by air or using at home! We reinforce a couple of areas just to be 110% sure and it was perfect!

This is a well made, very sturdy little kennel, perfect for my Savannah cat who ate his way out of a soft carrier.
