Q: Is the box made of wood or cardboard?

The box is made of cardboard....but its a very nice set. The characters are really nice...nice paint work...the box is really nice even though it is cardboard. Someone would have to step on it for it to break so it is good quality.

Q: Can this be paired with Brio wooden trains? Would the little car fit on the track?

The car does fit on Brio wooden tracks. The Janod circus train is very cute and also works on Brio tracks.

Q: Would an 8 year old enjoy this?

Tough to say, it depends on the 8 year old. My 4.5 year old loves it when she drags it out, as does my 2 year old. I would guess that 4-5 would be the ideal age for this, 8 might be too old.

Q: How small are the smallest pieces?

Approximately 3 1/2 inches. Read the "age appropriate" part of the description : ages 3-8 and use your own judgment.
