A tasty compilation!
This is a wonderful cookbook! I am very impressed with the distinct and obvious overlap of the various European cuisines and cultures, which this book makes stunningly clear. Anyone with Celtic and / or Scandinavian ancestry should treat themselves to this tasty compilation post haste!

It can remind you & inspire you, if you want.
Simply browsing this book prompts a lot of memories, The recipes do work but that is only a part of it: the joy is the inspiration possible from such a slender book. This is one book which will be well thumbed.

Step-by-step photos I appreciate
I really like this cookbook. Full range of recipes from simple soups to fish terrine. Great color photos featured in step-by-step instructions. Good information on history of Scottish food, explanations of ingredients, and food regions. It is the size of a magazine, not hard cover, so fits easily on my crowded cookbook shelf!

More for reading than using?
This is interesting and enjoyable to read, rather than to use. There is a good introductory section. The recipes sound delicious, but many of them are based on ingredients that are hard to find where I live , for example, game. It is lavishly illustrated.

All set for 'Burn’s Night' (at the time of writing)!
A collection of 60+ classic, step-by-step recipes ~ in case it is important, I will mention that there is no recipe for ‘TABLET’ in this book! 😞An especially useful ‘Cook’s Tip’ (at the time of writing), from ‘HAGGIS WITH CLAPSHOT CAKE’, on page 50, which covers off the usual argument by declaring ‘peeled turnip or swede (rutabaga)’ as one of the ingredients for the 'neeps & tatties’ to accompany the (bought) haggis:📝‘If you are serving haggis on Burns Night (January 25th), you need to bring the haggis whole to the table on a platter and cut it open reciting the famous Burns poem…’More than just a selection of recipes, there are all sorts of snippets of information in this colourful book, which is a larger format than I expected, representing great value for money, IMO. The introduction also includes notes about a wee dram or two and the clearly laid out recipes all have an opening note as does the double page spread that opens each section. From the back cover:✔️ ‘Explore the wonderful culinary traditions of Scotland with this collection of over 60 authentic recipes✔️ Includes a guide to the products harvested from the mountains, moors, forests, seas, rivers and lochs✔️ Chapters cover a full range of dishes, from hearty breakfasts, sustaining soups and traditional mains to seasonal side dishes, delectable desserts and classic cakes✔️ Features all the Scottish favourites, including SCOTCH BROTH, HAGGIS with CLAPSHOT CAKE, ANGUS PASTIES, KAILKENNY, DROP SCONES & SHORTBREAD✔️ Over 250 step-by-step colour photographs, as well as a variety of cook's tips and variations, help you achieve perfect results every time✔️ Complete nutritional notes are provided for every recipe.’ooOooMeasuring around 28 cm x 21.5 cm, the colourful card cover opens to 96 good quality, shiny finish pages, split over SECTIONS, each with a list of the recipes included:~ BREAKFASTS, SOUPS & APPETISERS~ FISH & SHELLFISH~ MEAT, POULTRY & GAME~ SIDE DISHES~ DESSERTS & BAKING...sandwiched between the aforementioned INTRODUCTION & a 1-page alphabetical INDEX, the latter winding up the book.[20 images attached ©Carol Wilson, Christopher Trotter, Craig Robertson & Anness Publishing/2010]
