Melissa & Doug Magnetic Calendar & Responsibility Chart Bundle

I bought this for my twin boys (age 5 1/2) for Christmas 2019. Every single night, we'll go through their chart and they take turns handing me a magnet of their choice if they've completed the task. We get a lot of mileage over the more ambiguous ones like "Showing Respect" and "Saying Please and Thank You". There are a ton of different magnet choices which cater to different age groups, so I can see this being useful for at least a couple more years. My boys still get excited every night to go through their chart, and I've seen a huge boost in motivation to do chores they're not too fond of (making their bed, cleaning up their toys, etc.). Many times I won't even need to ask them to complete something because they just know. They like choosing which responsibilities to interchange as well.The calendar that comes with it is also awesome! Not the main reason I bought this set, but it's a nice bonus. I'll sometimes quiz them on what day it is, what month comes after May, stuff like that. The magnets are colorful and there are a ton of different "events" magnets as well. They get excited putting certain ones on the board telling me that "On this day we'll go to the park!". Overall it's a great learning tool and I think it helps time become a little more of a tangible concept to their age group.

Your child needs this. My 3 year old son loves it! It’s a great way to motivate him, to review his “chores” and to teach calendar skills. The *only* reason I won’t give this is 5 stars has nothing to do with the actual product itself. Rather, it is a Melissa and Doug (M&D) design flaw found in the packaging of almost all of their products. There is no compact way to store all the tokens. To limit distractions and visual overload, I fold the lower half with the tokens out of view until we are using it. That means that they easily fall off when I flip it down to help my child make his choices. Also, there are great suggestions on how to use the products on the plastic wrappers, but not anywhere else. No one wants to keep plastic wrappers around once you’ve opened items. I wish that M&D would consider how to store their products after it is has been opened. Many of their products have great wooden box bases, but no tops to close them, so pieces tend to get lost easily.***UPDATE*** My son’s teacher shared there has been a complete change in behavior since we implemented these products last week.

The calendar is a good tool to help kids learn months and days of the week. However, I wish there were more magnets for activities and that you could fit more than one on the same day if need be. Also, the day light savings magnets were backwards, their pictures showed setting clocks back an hour in Spring and forward an hour in Fall, but it's supposed to be Spring forward and Fall back.The responsibility chart is not very well designed, it definitely needs more options and more room would be great too. There should be some "needs work", "keep trying", "don't give up", etc. kind of magnets so that kids can easily see what they need to work on and be encouraged to do so, but there are none in this set.Our daughter loves these, but I can only recommend the calendar not the responsibility chart.

This has been perfect for my 2 year old. He is a little young for the calendar part because I'm not sure he understands the concept of weeks, months, or years. But, he loves talking about the day and putting magnets on the calendar depending on what we have planned. The responsibility chart is great, but most of the chores are for older kids, such as completing homework or taking out trash. We have 7 that we use for my two year old - Get Dressed, Take Care of Pet, Take Bath, No Whining, Get Ready for Bed, Clean Room, Clean toys, and Brush Teeth. My only complaint is that there are only 2 blank magnets for each board to write your own events or chores. I wish there were more. Or that there were customizable stickers.

Praying this helps! My son is on the spectrum and mornings are pure chaos. He is so excited to have his own calendar to know what’s going on each day. I do wish there were some more options with the magnets and spaces to add more tasks to the week but over all a great buy.

Very nicely constructed, but they do begin to warp pretty quickly. I’ve corrected this by placing poster tape on all corners and adhering the wall. The magnets are strong, and it’s easy to wipe clean. Very happy with this purchase.

I was suprised by how easy it is to use! My little guy dove right in to help organize. I would have liked to see a picture day magnet and half day or early release magnet. we had a hard time choosing which one to use on the blank ! lol
