Panasonic AG-AC90 AVCCAM CAMCORDERVideo Camera with 12x Optical Zoom with 3.46-Inch LCD(Black) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I purchased the Camcorder with some hesitation, because at the time the Panasonic AG-AC90A was out as well and the cost was about the same. I called Amazon and also placed a post to find out what the difference was between the two camcorders with little to no concrete answers. For the record the Panasonic AG-AC90A IS THE MOST recent and updated Camcorder between the two.The AC90 CAN be updated to become the AC90A with a firmware update, its not really that hard to do. If you are thinking about making the purchase you just have to consider wither you want to buy one already updated for about the same cost or update it yourself.I did get a response back from Amazon stating that it didn't look like there was going to be a clear answer to my request anytime soon which seemed ridiculous to me, so I called Panasonic and here is a copy of the transcript of my conversation with Panasonic on the issue. The Camcorder is not a shoulder mount and not really a hand held either but a very solid and sturdy in between unit. It is very well built with the exception of using the power adapter, it is awkward to plug in and You CANNOT plug in the power adapter while the battery is installed. So in the event that your battery is going dead you will have to stop the recording and take out the battery to plug in the power cord. I think that Panasonic did a disservice here, there are cheap camcorders that doesn't come close to the quality of the AC90A that does both.The picture quality is great, even at night recording the moon is good. Some complain about pulling out the view finder but I didn't really have a problem with the way that it functioned. There are more software features with the updated firmware that are very useful. The battery takes a long time to recharge, at least 4hrs in my case. it would have been nice to have seen a rapid rechargeable battery with this unit but I can work around it.I really like the camera, its ease of use, its professional look and feel as well as the quality that it produces. I will be using it mostly for Wedding events and Documentary's. The issue with the plugging in the ac adapter kept it from being 5 stars for me. I hope this helps

I bought this camcorder almost a month ago and I just got around to testing it. I'm writing this review based on very little experience with the camcorder. But I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far and thought that I should share it. I might update this review later on when I have more to say.There are two things that I'm very impressed with so far: Picture quality and ease of use. After only a few minutes of skimming the manual, I fired up the camcorder and got perfect results with it.I noticed that the first movie that I did was perfect! Please understand that the output from this camcorder is much better than HD movies that you download, and I'm not exaggerating. This camcorder requires very little light (I have an inexpensive LED light that I mounted on the hot shoe on the camcorder), it focuses very well, it seems to output true colors and shows no noticeable noise in the output.The movies look about as sharp as good photos when the photos are zoomed in to 100%. The autofocus works perfectly. This camcorder is very easy to use or I wouldn't have had luck this good on the first try. Again, I can't express enough that the output from this camcorder is better than HD TV or HD movies that I've watched on Amazon. I can't believe the lack of noticeable noise in the output. If there is any noise at all, it's practically invisible. Not so with HD movies that I've watched!The camcorder also has a rugged appearance and feel to it.Based on what I've seen so far, I recommend buying it.Update 1/20/2015: I've had a chance to check out this camera some more and I'm having very good results with it. I wanted to mention that you will need some light with this camera, but not a really bright light. I'm using a NEEWER® 160 LED CN-160 Dimmable Ultra High Power Panel Digital Camera light with the camera and getting excellent results. I got the light through Amazon for $28.20. You should probably check out this light. With a little light, the camera shows no noticeable noise in the video output at all and I'm getting 100% true-to-life appearance in the videos. The videos are razor sharp, just like a photograph. You have to hold the camera fairly still to get those razor sharp images, though. With a little effort, you'll be able to do that.The only things I've found that I might not completely approve of are the On/Off and Record/Playback switches. They feel a little cheap. Most of the rest of the camera feels very rugged.Update 2/07/2015: I'd like to add that I've just done some still pictures with this camcorder and they look surprisingly good. I just did 4 of these still pictures and they are all under 1.5 MB. They look just about as sharp and clear as pictures taken with a regular still camera.

I have truly enjoyed getting to know this camera. We have placed this in use at our church and found that it does everything and more. Great controls. The LCD is a bit flimsy, but nothing that would merit a star knock. The HDMI pass through works perfectly with a clean signal. Great XLR inputs and control making in-camera-audio much better quality.

Like another commenter, I received a Canadian Panasonic version. I bought a Square Trade warranty to offset this grey market problem, but this is not really the way I expect things to go on Amazon.comCamcorder is, however, a great device. Easy to use. Very solid feel, yet lightweight. A terrific machine that will serve us for years to come. Amazon should put the correct model number.

I used an HMC40 for a couple years. I replaced that with a JVC PX100, which I immediately returned as it didn't come close to competing with the HMC40. I decided to go with the AG-AC90 and it just arrived yesterday.I filmed a football game last night, and I couldn't be happier with my decision!!!Most of the menus and controls are very similar to the HMC40, so I was able to get rolling within about an hour of opening the box. What stood out immediately was the smooth action of the zoom rocker. I was able to control the zoom speed much better than all other camcorders I've used. When I got home and viewed the footage on my PC, I was impressed with how well the camera performed in low light! No grain at all, and crystal-clear results.If you are considering this camera, I really recommend going for it.
