As expected. It works.

Of all the pin nailers I’ve tried this is the cheapest one that actually works. You get an occasional miss fire, but they’re rare, and it’s worth paying half the price of other brands. Overall it works great, is light, accurate, and durable, and 23 gauge means the nails are barely visible. I’ll stick with Metabo.

Should have bought a good pin nailer and also a good brad nailer decades ago. This works perfectly and leaves no mark, right out of the box. All you see is the tiny, perfectly flush end of the 23awg pin. Fantastic!

I have a large baseboard shoe project coming up and some minor finish trim work to do on a primary bathroom improvement. A friend of mine who has a cabinet business offered to loan me one of his headless pin nailers (one tool I don’t own), but I decided I needed to buy one for myself. Most decent pin nailers start in the mid-$100 range. Amazon had a Black Friday special on a Metabo-HPT brand 1-3/8” pin nailer for $69 (available elsewhere for $139 or higher). I already own a Metabo miter saw which I found to be a value-buy for a second miter saw in my shop. With the NP 35A pin nailer at deep discount, I immediately purchased it for next-day delivery. The one thing that wasn’t clear in the Amazon description was if a case was included. At the price, it wasn’t too much of a concern and I have several small tool bags that would suffice. Not only is a rugged case included, but inside the case is a pair of safety glasses and a small bottle of air tool oil, along with an owner’s manual, a hex key for countersink depth adjustment, and a spare anti-mar nose-tip (the orange rubber piece mounted at the rear of the hand opening). The case for my Metabo pin nailer will look just fine beside my Senco air nailers in their cases. I purchased a pack of 23-gauge pins locally. The ones I purchased have an arrowhead stenciled on the side of each strip of pins. Arrow up? Arrow down? That is the question. The arrow points to the sharp end of the pins and needs to go into the nailer magazine pointing down. The nailer comes with an industrial style 1/4-inch quick disconnect installed – perfectly matching my air quick disconnects. Firing safety is maintained by two interlocking triggers. The two-trigger system is a little cumbersome at first but easily mastered. The rearward safety trigger is held up with the middle finger of the hand holding the barrel of the nailer, leaving the index finger available to fire a pin with the other trigger. I pinned a couple of boards together to check countersink depth which was set just below flush. Metabo provides a 5-year warranty, another plus. The NP 35A is designed to fit in tight paces and is more squat than other pin nailers. Registration of the nailer on their website is easy – no account to setup – just complete the online form. It’s a reasonable buy at its regular price, but there are a few choices at similar prices. Overall, Metabo makes good tools and offers a longer warranty than other brands, a good combination. It's definitely a solid 4-star buy, but at a deep discount, it becomes a 5-star buy.
