Don't buy because of the fabric
At one time, van Heusen shirts were decent middling quality shirts with soft-to-the-touch fabric. Apparently cheapened with the sale by PVH Group, owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, to Authentic Brands Group (ABG) in a move designed to shed the former's less profitable heritage brands businesses, this polyester cotton blend shirt feels like it is manufactured from wood-chips -- itchy to wear on bare skin. The color of the shirt I bought -- purple -- is great. The shirt fits me well. I need a collar 17 inches - not the more common 17-17.5 inches. The 36-37 inch sleeves are long enough. Only in the abdominal area is there a bit of excess but the tailor can take that in. Problem is that it is very uncomfortable to wear even with an undershirt as the exposed skin on the arms starts to itch. For the itchy woody material -2 stars. An additional -1 star for marketing factors. I bought the shirt for $27 and now it is selling for $45 as if ABG has a model that tracks purchases and changes prices (usually upward) as airlines do on a daily if not hourly basis. This is just price-gouging. Basic information like the composition of the shirt in terms of fabric is opaque and it is necessary to search for answers to questions that other customers have posted. There needs to be transparency of product information on Amazon. Amazon should also indicate the place of manufacture of goods it sells. I do not want to buy anything from China: not so much because of politics but because the quality of most items they produce is poor: low prices for junk items. If at all possible, I do not want to buy from a Chinese company selling Chinese-made goods, nor from a US-company (or other non-Chinese company) sourcing manufacture of its goods in China.
