I dont even know how. But its a small chip that happened after 1 use. Ever since then its been fine. But I like it other than that.

Amazing Pot
This has to be one of the best pots I own. I have been wanting a cast iron pot and seriously thought about buying it at William Sonoma. I decided to do a bit of research and look at all that was listed on this site. Yes, the pot is heavy, but I expected that as I am familiar with them. I was motivated to but the pot because I cooked a rice dish in my large non-stick pan and it burnt. I decided to try this one on Amazon as I did not want to pay over $200 at the high-end store. I was blown away with the performance of this pot. I cooked the same rice dish, and to my surprise, it did not burn or stick. I also used it today to make lentils. Cook time was about 40 minutes from dried peas to nice and softly cooked peas with +++ flavour. I usually cook lentils and other dried peas in the slow cooker over 4 hours. I will not be doing that again cause this pot took a fraction of the time and the intense flavour it bring out in the food is unmatched. I would encourage anyone who wants a high quality, 1/3 of the price, beautiful pot to get this one. I got the red and the colour is beautiful. I bought this pot last October so I have had much use before posting this review.
