I can't say with certainly but there is about a 5 deg. deadband. Hope this helps.

I need for attic fan. i've seen units that shut off in event of fire (very high temp). is that necessary? is it a required code?

this is a thermostat that controls when the attic fan will go on and off, It is normally set in the attic for 90-100Degrees , so when it gets hot the fan goes on.

Can I use this for a ceiling fan. I need a thermostatic switch to heep the heat down from a vaulted ceiling in the winter?

The fan is designed to be attached to a wall or ceiling as an exhaust fan. You can wire a thermostat on a ceiling fan, but this one is an exhaust fan. Mine is mounted on the ceiling to pull warm air out of my sunroom into the outdoors.
