Is this a tram 1480 or tram 1481? the photo seems to show a tram 1480, but the item number in the description says 1481.

The item I ordered was a tram 1481 and that is what I received, just as the description stated.

what connector do I need on the antenna end of my coax? Also, what diameter galvanized pipe do you suggest?

This antenna takes the larger PL259 coax ends, as found on most 50 Ohm coaxial cables. I ordered that from Amazon as well. Radio Shack has the cables in 20 foot and 50 foot a bit cheaper, but doesn't seem to be the same quality as what Amazon has. As far as the pipe goes, the mounting bracket that comes with the antenna will handle 1 inch to 2 inch pipe. I split the difference with 1-1/2 inch pipe.

can this antenna be used for 11 meters too?

for 11 meter band you need a regular cb antenna

For grounding purposes: is the antenna connected to the metal stem below the ground plain? If so, will grounding that be sufficient for grounding.

the shield of connector coax is but lightning hitting a verticle tip would be using center conductor of coax, so i use a lightning arrestor like Riotaxy UHF Lightning Arrestor PL-259 Lightning Surge Protector PL259 Plug UHF Male to SO239 Socket UHF Female with 10 wire both touching the aluminum mount and continuing down to ground so in event of strike the conductors are all three or four, the 10 and mast, the shield and the center conductor , i use another lightning arrestor to hopefully drain to ground again just before entering shack (actually at shack, i use a morgan or array solutions one in aluminum box that is similar but better than polyphaser as morgan. ICE or Array solutions ones add a circuit to drain static off fiberglass/coax, which may make lightning less attracted in the first place
