Fritz Bauer: The Jewish Prosecutor Who Brought Eichmann and Auschwitz to Trial (German Jewish Cultures)

After first reading Irmtrud Wojak’s thoroughly researched biography of Fritz Bauer, I found Ronen Steinke’s biography, as translated by Sinead Crowe, an easier read in several respects. Firstly, Steinke writes in a narrative style that is easy to follow, interesting and focuses on issues rather than chronology. Secondly, Steinke does not over load the reader with the names of people and organizations that do not enhance the reader’s understanding of Fritz Bauer’s accomplishments. Thirdly, the Fritz Bauer of Steinke’s biography is more human and there is not an effort to avoid topics which could detract from Bauer’s mystique.
