Top Gear 14 (DVD)

Top Gear is timeless. It won't matter what season you watch, they are all excellent. Jeremy, Richard, and James, the presenters of this Super-car, Super-informative, Super-serious, Super-funny, Super-silly, anomaly, or enigma of humanity has just got to be seen to be appreciated. These English gentlemen show the engineering skills of a Ferrari engineer, the knowledge of driving tantamount to a formula one driver and the hilarity and incompetency of the three stooges all in one package and they make it all very believable. They talk about all kinds of cars while letting you go with them on a test drive. No car is beyond their reach for a drive in the country or on the track. The chemistry between these hosts is English charm and buffoonery perfectly presented like a typical family reunion. You will be having so much fun watching that you will not realize that you are being well educated on some very sophisticated car facts. I would rate Top Gear a 10, but I am only allowed 5 Stars.

I recently picked up seasons 14 and 15 of Top Gear on Blu Ray, and it has to be said, I am not dissapointed. Season 14 is superb, boasting some of the funniest episodes I have ever seen. These include the South American special, and the guys trying to make a successful electric car. There are some awesome James moments too.(I point this out because he is my favorite presenter). There are plenty of bonus features on the Blu Ray, including behind the scenes "Stars in Reasonably Priced Cars". The episodes look good on my HDTV, which is a must for any acceptable Blu Ray these days (28 Days Later, I'm looking at you -_-). This 7 episode set runs about 400 minutes, which is an acceptable run time for a Blu with such a cheap price. I probably wouldn't be able to find a copy near me for less than $40. In summation, any Top Gear fans will not be dissapointed with this set. Must buy.

I've been a long time Top Gear fan since the early days of the relaunched series, which has taken the show to all heights of international fame & popularity. Series 14 marked the shows big switch to HD broadcasts and it was inevitable that a bluray home release would be made. So in glorious 1080p we get series/season 14 and the cars, action and laughs continue on like the previous seasons. This being the region 1 version sold for the US domestic market, it works fine on most bluray players including both my samsung and PS3 units. Video transfer looks gorgeous especially during the live studio segments. Audio is great and it's a shame the earlier seasons weren't also done in HD, I would love to see them all in this detail.

The entire Top Gear series is great entertainment. I’m not a big car nut but the information and photography are so good that I’ve developed an interest. I find myself laughing out loud to some of the dialogue. First rate streaming experience.

Just so you know: English is not my mother language.I was watching the Bolivia Special and they were using this drug called Viagra which I didn't know what it was until I googled it. I sincerely hope that google won't push related ads...my body works fine, thank you.

It's a car show but it really isn't about cars at all, and which is exactly the kind of achievement the show is. Even my friend who's absolutely not interested in cars whatsoever watches it and enjoys it. But even better is, while it's not really a whole lot to do with cars, the presenters (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May) manage to communicate how cars can be something that people can relate to at primitive and emotional level, that it's okay to get excited about. Now, that's pretty good right there.

Fantastic purchase experience and a FANTASTIC SHOW! Top Gear really set the bar high for automotive television. As informative as it is entertaining.

Season 14 finds a wonderful balance between the specific and the silly. There is nothing better than watching three relative incompetents design an electric vehicle, and then watch it fail in the middle of rush hour traffic. Even better is James May shouting for help as his airship caravan starts to veer off course. Something like the 'Cars as Art' or 'Airport Vehicle Challenge' is a little obvious, but on the other hand, the sheer scope of something like the Bolivia Special marks why Top Gear is such a sensational show. It's like the first episodes trip to Romania. While there is definitely a bit of the old "stranger in a strange land" conceit, Top Gear never talks down to its destinations. Instead, it makes the hosts into the harlequins, turning their frequent discomfort and cluelessness into clear comic gold. Equally fascinating is the Stars in the Reasonably Priced Cars segment. Where else can you see a sunny Eric Bana or a serious Guy Ritchie loosen up and talk about their love of the automobile. Even better, a few are quite fast around the old racing track. Top Gear is just another amazing example of UK entertainment ingenuity.

Deliberately ordered through Amazon Australia in the hope it could be played on Australian DVD players. But it came from the uk and so we can’t watch it.
