The drill bits work on at least steel and brass. The bits are very sharp (which was a concern prior to use) and cut very well. I use light oil to help the cutting. I've used them with the hand drill on the very small parts and used the bits in a drimmel for larger parts. I've even used the hand drill with a tap (0-80 size) to fix a very tiny knob, see photo. Had to drill the knob (about 3/16 in. diameter) at the base and the shaft (about 1/2 in. long), tap both piece, cut the top off a 0-80 screw, and use it as a stud to connect the two.

Great little pin vise, but it squeaks when you're using it. A little oil fixed it right up. The selection of bits is very nice.

This product arrived on time and proved to be as advertised. It was more than adequate for my needs.

This little set worked great for drilling precise little holes in hard thin plastic. The tips are sharp and remain that way through many uses. The tool itself is a good one.

I often need to drill holes in plastic. With a standard drill, even at the lowest speeds, plastic tends to melt and then adhere to the drill bit, resulting in the hole being larger than desired, not to mention making a mess of the drill bit. The solution is to hand drill, and this product provides a wide range of bit sizes ranging from the ultra-small up to drill bit sizes that you'd find in a standard drill set. I thought using the unit would be tougher, but it's actually quite easy, and I was immediately having no difficulty drilling tiny holes into plastic sheet. The entire kit is simply tossed together into various plastic bags (with a storage case for one group of bits), and the construction of the pin vise itself is inexpensive, but all that aside, the kit works perfectly well, the drill bits are straight, and the set makes for a very reasonably priced starter set.
