Titanium Bone Conduction Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, Slate Grey

(Written by the son this was a gift for.) TLDR: Great headphones. Crazy good acoustic range, plus amazing battery life, and seamless pairing! Changed my listening experience for the better, as I can finally hear music, videos, and games in stereo. I am NEVER going back to regular headphones. My teachers are even fine with me wearing them in class, as they know I can hear them. These are the best headphones ever. Period. When I was younger, I had severe ear infections that never went away. This resulted in the disintegration of one of the bones in my inner ear involved in conducting sound waves to the nervous center. Ever since then, I have been deaf in my right ear. I while ago, I got a hearing aid for it. The hearing aid was just an amplifier, with some smartness to it. I was able to hack it and make a DIY Bluetooth pendant for it. I did that instead of buying Phonak's $200 accessory. That worked for a while, but was very unreliable and had very bad audio quality, and was only one-way. So headphones were never good for me. I could never find a pair of headphones that; a) worked with my hearing aid, b) were comfortable, c) not over $100, and d) were any good. But for my birthday, my parents got me one of these AfterShokz Bone-conduction headphones. I was a little skeptical at first, but I put them on, and Audrey (I think that's her name. She's the little voice that reads the status, like connection and pairing and stuff) greeted me. That was the first time I could hear something like that in stereo. I immediately paired them to my phone and blasted Led Zepplin's Immigrant Song. I was in a crowded bowling alley, and I was not wearing my hearing aid. But I could hear the song perfectly, and I was able to talk with people around me. These things have a crazy acoustic range and work very well. Since getting them, I have never used any other headphones. I am even working on making a small Bluetooth transmitter so that I can use these on devices that are not Bluetooth. These headphones can carry the full range of orchestral epic music I listen to, while also making sure I can hear the faintest sounds of my games. I can hear movies and games in surround sound. The battery life is crazy. I can plug it into a standard 5v 1amp (is that bad? As the headphones are only looking for 0.15 amps) phone charger, and get 12-14 hours from like a 15-minute charge. The best is that they can charge while in use, which is usually what I do when I'm not moving for a bit. The volume control is very intuitive and useful. Although I wish there were more ticks. They are insanely comfortable once you get used to it. I usually forget I am wearing them, and get startled by the DING of it disconnecting, or by Audrey saying "Charge me." (that's a little creepy, guys, like really? Why do my headphones refer to themselves in the first person? You couldn't settle for beeps like everyone else? lol) I usually fall asleep wearing these, listening to relaxing music or funny videos. The only problem I have is just a hardware/electronic physics issue. I have found no headphones that do not do this. But if I plug the headphones in, while they are on, they turn off. But I can immediately turn them back on. Not an issue, but if someone could figure out why that happens, and fix it, that would be amazing. Disconnecting the charger does not turn it off though. Also, if I plug them in right after she says "Charge me," when they come back on (usually within a second or two of being plugged in) Audrey's voice sounds distorted and corrupted. This only happens if they are plugged in, just ran out of power, and have been plugged in for less than 10 seconds. IDK why it happens, but I have no problem with it. The earplugs are very useful, as I have a very loud 3d printer in my room, and I usually cannot sleep with it running, but with the earplugs in while listening to music, I cannot hear it at all. Great headphones, amazing sound quality and battery life. Great job AfterShokz.

This is a preliminary review, since I just received the Aftershkz Trekz Titanium from Amazon today and have only used them once. I have had over the years many earbuds and still use several of them. (for different reasons). For travel, I often use a pair of Shure in ear (ear occluding) ear buds which probably have the best overall sound. They are somewhat difficult to position properly and only use them when it is ok to occlude outside sounds and when it is worth taking the time to position them properly. I have a pair of Bang and Olufsen (non-occluding) ear buds that I use fairly often. Very good sound (although not as good as the Shure), but again, it takes a little time to position them. They are also not always the most comfortable to wear. I do not wear them for cycling, given their cost and concern over sweat damaging them. (Also, not sure how they would fit with my helmet, etc). For cycling/biking, I have used mostly a fairly inexpensive Sony sport ear buds, that hook around my ear lobes. They have held up fairly well over years of use. The sound is mediocre, and they don't occlude my ear canals, so outside sound is pretty good for biking. They do have an issue with the left one falling out at times when they get sweaty. Also, the cord occasionally will catch on to some things when walking (door handle, bike handlebar, etc). That being said, I came across the AfterShokz in a review on a bike website and figured I would give them a try. Not much of a discount on Amazon, but figured I would try them. They are packaged nicely and the instructions are fairly simple and seemed good. They feel like a quality product. They connected easily to my iPhone bluetooth. I was considering trying to connect them directly to my Apple watch, but figured the connection may be better directly to the phone. (The only disadvantages that I see, are that if I answer a phone call using the watch face prompt, the sound stupidly does not switch to the headphones (that is an Apple oversight, in my opinion). Also, if I had any music on the watch, I would not be able to listen directly without the phone. (I have not, as of yet, ever put music directly on the watch). I was concerned that I may have some problems with shared real estate with all my bike gear. I put on a skull cap (Halo brand), then a bike helmet. (Specialized). I then put on the Aftershokz. Last, I put on a pair of Oakley prescription sunglasses. (arms are fairly large for glases). Overall, all fit fairly well. I then went for a 40 minute bike ride, mid day, in the Florida heat and humidity. Although I was aware of them on, I cannot say at any time they were uncomfortable which is good. At no time, did I have to worry about them falling off. It was nice, not having to worry about the cord catching on anything or the earpiece falling out of my ear. The sound was pretty impressive, considering they were not even in my ears. Not as much bass as the Shure ear occluding buds, but pretty good sound overall. I would not want all that bass while biking anyway. I found I could listen to my music louder and it sounded much clearer, without feeling concerned about missing something with the road noise or traffic. It seemed like a near perfect compromise between hearing road sounds and hearing the music well. (Much better than riding with one ear piece in, which I have done at times in the past as well). I got a phone call during my ride. (Something that was difficult to answer with my cheap Sony, headphone only, buds. This was simple. I reached up with my left hand, quickly felt the button my left earpiece and hit it once. The person seemed to hear my responses without diffculty, and I heard them loud and clear. So overall, at least on the first day.....I am fairly pleased. Build quality very good, Design very good, Sound very good, Price, fair, but I guess you get what you pay for. Comfort with all my bike gear in place.....so far....better than expected. As an addendum: I have used the headphones now for another week or two and still fairly impressed. Have found that putting them on first, before my skullcap and bike helmet, and before my glasses (all in that order), seems to work best. Only one day did I seem to have trouble keeping the left part keep slipping off, and when I got home from my bike ride, found that the sweat was keeping it moving around, only because I had not put them on properly. If I take the time to make sure both sides are firmly hooked around my ears before they settle in front of my ears, they do not slip or move much at all, through my entire ride, even if I sweat in the Florida heat and humidity. Sound quality was still felt to be quite good, as is the ability to hear road noises, unless the volume setting is fairly loud. Another addendum, now much more than a year old. Quickly became my favorite earphones. Great for biking.....walking. Use them for everyday use to listen to podcasts, music. The only exception, is for plane travel, the Shure earbuds are better....since the open air design of the Trekz allow the engine noise of the plane to drown out the sound of the music or podcast.....but used the for travel and several trainrides.....and the Trekz were wonderful. Buy a lot from Amazon....and quickly became one of my favorite purchases. As an addendum, about a year and half after purchase, I had some issues with the on/off button, and the company support via email was great. They not only make a good product, but they stand behind it. Within 2 weeks, I had a new unit replacement. Great product! Great customer support!

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Perfekt fürs Radfahren, Joggen etc., damit man Umgebungsgeräusche wie herannahende Autos wahrnimmt. Als „klassische“ Bluetoothkopfhörer eher weniger geeignet. REZENSION: Ich bin Radpendler und nutze die Zeit auf der Leeze für Podcasts. Hatte zuvor immer nur einen Kopfhörer im Ohr, um noch die Umgebung und herannahende Autos zu hören, was aber nicht so gut klappte und auch von der Podcast-Hörqualität suboptimal war. Der Aftershokz Trekz Titanium bietet hier eine ideale Lösung: Umgebungswahrnehmung bei gleichzeitigem Hörgenuss (übrigens auch beim Monitoring schlafender Kleinkinder). Da ich noch keine Erfahrung mit Knochenleitkopfhörern hatte, fand ich die Außengeräusche zunächst störend. Das assoziierte ich Anfangs mit „schlechten“ Kopfhörer, die nicht richtig abschirmen. Aber genau diese Wahrnehmung der Umgebung bei gleichzeitigem Hören von MP3 ist ja der Zweck des Ganzen. Bei starkem Verkehrslärm durch LKW, Güterzüge etc. kommt der Kopfhöhrer an seine Grenzen und man versteht nichts mehr. Wenn man die Lautstärke hingegen voll aufdreht, nimmt man die herannahenden Autos kaum noch wahr. Ich bin daher dazu übergegangen, eine mittlere Lautstärke einzustellen und die Übertragung kurz zu pausieren, wenn ich laute Bereiche durchfahre. Dies ist aufgrund des Multifunktionsknopfs gut möglich. Der Kopfhörer sitzt gut, bleibt an seinem Platz, stört auch bei längerem Tragen nicht und Kabellosigkeit ist auf dem Rad definitiv von Vorteil. Ich befürchtete, dass der Kopfhörer eventuell inkompatibel mit meinem Allston Zipmold Helm von Bern ist. Dieser geht im Vergleich zu leichteren Helmen recht tief in den Nacken, bis zum Haaransatz. Kopfhörer passt aber wunderbar und eine zusätzliche Sonnenbrille ist auch kein Problem. Einmal gekoppelt, steht die Verbindung nach dem Einschalten blitzschnell. Die Herstellerangaben hinsichtlich Stand-by, Nutzung und Aufladen halte ich nach zwei Wochen Benutzung für realistisch. Praktisch ist der Multifunktionsknopf (Wiedergabe/Pause Musik, Nächster Titel, Anruf beantworten/beenden, Neuen Anruf beantworten und aktuellen Anruf in Warteschleife, Neuen Anruf beantworten und aktuellen Anruf beenden, Anruf ablehnen, Sprachwahl, Wahlwiederholung letzte Nummer). Super ist auch, dass das Gerät per Bluetooth mit dem Smartphone UND MP3-Player gekoppelt werden kann und bei einem eingehenden Anruf der Podcast unterbrochen wird. Die Freisprechfunktion funktioniert allerdings nur in geschlossenen Räumen gut, draußen haben meine Gesprächspartner manches mal Probleme, mich zu verstehen. Scheint ein Problem mit dem Mikro zu sein. Hier ist noch Verbesserungsbedarf. Hinsichtlich der Nutzung „ohne Fahrrad“ als normaler Bluetooth-Kopfhörer ist folgendes zu sagen: Aus den o.g. Gründen müsste man sich Ohropax in die Ohren schrauben, wenn man sich im Großraumbüro oder Fitnessraum von Umgebungsgeräuschen abkapseln möchte. Bei voller Lautstärke ohne Nebengeräusche können andere relativ gut hören, was man selbst hört. Bei normaler Lautstärke muss man weniger als 1 m in der Nähe sein, um mitzuhören. Soundqualität ist überraschend gut. Bei Musik jedoch supobtimal, da nahezu null Bass. Mir geht es allerdings in erster Linie um Podcasts, so dass ich da durchschnittliche Ansprüche habe. FAZIT: Alles in allem bin ich mit dem Produkt für meine Hauptnutzung auf dem Rad mit Umgebungswahrnehmung sehr zufrieden. Klare Kaufempfehlung! Wer einen Bluetooth-Kopfhörer eher für „klassische“ Zwecke benötigt und hohe Musikqualität erwartet, sollte zu anderen Produkten greifen. LIEFERUMFANG: Kopfhörer, kleine Tasche, USB-Aufladekabel (USB A zu Micro USB), Gehörschutzstöpsel in kleiner Box.

Excellent product. Since i have an ear problem and mild deafness in one ear, conventional earphones/headphones were not suitable for me. This one is absolutely perfect since the ears don't come in the picture. No packed ear feeling or pain in the ears usually associated with normal headphones. Bone conduction technology is amazing, so good that whoever saw it was amazed by it. The best feeling comes when you close your ears and listen to the music from the device. Excellent to use for hansd free phone calling. Battery backup also good, lasting me more than 3 days on a full charge with moderate use.

Great product and because you can still hear what is happening around you, it is much safer then blocking your ears with in-ear plugs, on-ear/over-ear shells or noise-cancelling and still you can enjoy the music.

Great product for cycling. Also like using for calls, although mic is not the best for long conversations. Believe the newer models are better for that.
