Demon King (Claimed By Lucifer Book 1)

A fun start to a series!
Demon King is a paranormal urban fantasy romance set in the backdrop of Las Vegas - one of my all time favorite cities! Hannah has just traveled there looking for her missing best friend. Desperate for answers, she seeks the help of the King of Las Vegas, a playboy billionaire named Lucas. He agrees to find her friend in exchange for a deal - seven nights with her, one night for each of the seven deadly sins. It’s only seven days…what could go wrong?!?This book was such a fun read!! I loved Hannah’s relationship with Lucas and how their history slowly unfolded throughout the book. I loved the side characters too and definitely want to learn more about them! This book totally gave me vibes from the Lucifer TV show and I loved it! I’m also a sucker for a Hades and Persephone retelling and this book gave me those vibes too!Overall this was a four star read for me! A super fun book and I’ll definitely be adding the rest of the series to my TBR! It had a few spicy scenes so two flames for spice! If you are a fan of the Lucifer TV show, or enjoy fated mates, supernatural beings hiding in plain sight, and broody MCs with sass and wings, then definitely pick up this book!

A new-to-me author became an auto-buy with this one book!
I wrote this review back on Halloween but I can no longer find it in my account, so I am copying and pasting it again. I’ve also updated it a bit since the release of the second in this series is only days away. I am not exaggerating when I say the wait has been agonizing.Goodness, what to say about this book? This is hard because I really don’t want to give anything away and ruin the experience for anyone.I had never heard of Elizabeth Briggs before picking up this book. I used to read just about anything, but I’ve found myself having a really hard time trusting new authors over the last few years. Indie publishing has opened the way for some great books that I may never have been able to experience otherwise, but it has also generated a large number of books filled with disappointing characters, poor editing, and just bad storytelling.I was intrigued by the blurb in a way I haven’t been in a very long time—so much so that I immediately one-clicked it even though the audio wasn’t out yet. I broke my rule of not buying a book that isn’t also available in audio for the first time in years, without hesitation and without even checking to see if it ever would be (a rule that came about because of a severe lack of time to sit down and read anymore). Then I immediately started reading. By the time I read the first two paragraphs of Lucas’ point of view in the second chapter I knew I was hooked. I devoured this book and finished it the same night. The mythology is well researched and I adored the interpretations. All of the characters were well fleshed out and feel real, even the secondary characters. The world building is done so well that it sucked me into Lucas’ and Hannah’s world and I didn’t come up for air until I turned the last page. There is SO much heat and emotion in this story! It’s a fated mates story so I knew going in they would get together, but I did not expect to FEEL so much. Sadness, anger, heat, heartache, joy, The author dragged them all out of me. The story is raw, and sexy, and HOT! Elizabeth Briggs is a master at making you feel what the characters are feeling at all times. The pain and fear and LUST (and yes, love too!) gripped me and wouldn’t let me go. I could still feel the echoes of it days after I finished this book.I have decided that Elizabeth Briggs is evil and relishes our torment in all the best ways. She has now joined my list of authors who I’m certain fuel themselves on their readers’ tears. I stayed up way too late reading this the first time, and I have read it and listened to the audio book multiple times while waiting for the second to be available on February 1st. I hurt for both Lucas and Hannah and can’t stand the wait for the next book because I NEED to see them finally find happiness after so, so much pain.I read the first chapter of the next book and my heart broke all over again. Release day can’t come soon enough! I’m certain I’m going to be taken on another emotional roller coaster, but I. Am. Here. For. It.The author may be new to me but I already trust her not to disappoint me. I know she will put us all back together after she tears us apart again.

The Devil's in the details
I'll admit to heavy, heavy eye rolling at the name Lucas Ifer. I'm doing it again now just typing it.The plot? Here we go, in the heroine's words: "As soon as Lucas closed the door behind him, I glanced around the guest room in wonder, still struggling to believe this was all real. Two days ago I’d been packing my bags to head to Vegas to find my friend, and now I would be living here for the next seven nights, at the whim of a man they called the devil. Sure, I’d agreed to the deal, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying. Especially now that Lucas was gone and I was alone with my thoughts."Trapped by an attractive billionaire isn't a unique premise. This one adds a paranormal twist with some Biblical characters. (Hint: if you're overly find of the source material you may have issues with some of this.)It is interesting enough to pique my curiosity as to what happens next, with the plot beautifully not just "he took me as his... Then took me. A lot. Rawr." As much as I enjoy quality smut, the plot and action in this one was a nice change of pace.

It's been done before!
I have very mixed feelings about this book, I really wanted to like it, especially after reading the reviews, however I struggled massively. If you have watched the TV series 'Lucifer' or are a fan, you will realise that a lot of story elements are similar. So the hero speaks with a British accent, wears suits and runs a casino/club. He has a black female sidekick also. And nearly every sentence uttered seemed to be a rip of from 'Lucifer'. It was seriously distracting. Although the storyline is very different, It read too similar to Lucifer fan-fiction. So I don't think I'll be giving the 2nd book a go, but I do advise you make up your own mind. If you haven't watched Lucifer you may very well love this.

3.5 stars
Hannah goes to Vegas to find her best friend who has gone missing, but after several attempts at getting any information she keeps coming up empty. So she decides to make a deal with the devil of Las Vegas himself, Lucas Ifer.Except it turns out that he’s actually the devil. The real one. Lucifer, king of hell, ruler of demons, Beelzebub, Satan, the.actual.devil. And Hannah just made a deal with him.At first, this gave me major Lucifer (the tv show) vibes. And I really didn’t know how to feel about that because I couldn’t stop picturing Tom Ellis and he’s soooo not the vibe I imagined for this Lucifer. But after a few chapters I managed to block that out for the most part. There is a lot to unpack here, for Hannah mostly, and we haven’t even really scratched the surface yet.I can totally understand her frustrations at everyone constantly keeping secrets from her “to protect her”. If they were all just honest and upfront, a lot of the excessive drama could have probably been avoided. But at the same time, I feel like Hannah just wasn’t asking the right questions! The only secret I agree with is Lucifer’s solution at the end. And only because of his reasoning for it.Intrigued to see what happens in the next book.

kind innocent human mated to Lucifer, King of Hell
I’ll start off with I’m never a fan of a damsel, this book lost a star for me because a woman constantly needing to be saved isn’t fun for me. That looks set to change in the next books so I’m not going to give up. Plus the story itself is a good one. I loved the character of Lucifer from reading Seraphim Academy so it was great to be able to read his point of view and his own story. Some of the Demons are trying to overthrow him as their ruler people and it just so happens that his reincarnated fated mate is in the area at the same time.I’m mostly looking forward to the next book though I hope the grovelling and forgiveness phase isn’t a long drawn out one.

Blown Away!
This is the first 'paranormal' romance I have read and I was blown away.Hannah goes to Las Vegas in search of her missing friend, Brandy. After no success or help from police, she approaches the mafia boss and King of the strip, Lucas Ifer for help.He agrees but on condition that he can do whatever he wants with her for 7 nights! She takes the deal and from here on in, it is excitement all the way!I just loved the romance between Hannah and the Devil and I have to confess, I wouldn't mind having a fling with him either! This is the first book of three and I can't wait to read the next instalment.
