emporia SMART.4 - easy-to-use smartphone - Official UK and Irish version

I bought this for my 86 year old father. We have tried many phones to no avail. This one has been the best. The ability for the Home Screen to revert back to just 4 buttons is a great help you can choose which are the most used for you. He loves that the camera is so easy to use and the contact can be displayed with pictures. He can now even use WhatsApp which is really great so he can see who he is talking to. The emergency button is great for peace of mind and sends his location immediately to the chosen contacts along with the help me message. The phone is also well made and robust. Worth the money .

wouldn't buy again, its not as easy to use, fine if you only want the numbers of people that you have put on the main screen. the biggest downside for me is you can not enlarge the keypad for texting.

Although marketed primarily at seniors (not fond of that expression, but it seems to be the one in current use), this phone is actually good for anyone who wants a reasonably priced smartphone, with good specifications. I was unsure of buying an Emporia phone as they are not mainstream, however the user of the phone (not me) is very happy with it.Good points: It has all the main functionality needed for general use, and operation of the phone is very clear and uncomplicated (and easy to navigate). The manual (comes as booklet with the phone but also available online) is very helpful for the set-up, though in practice, the set-up is still perhaps somewhat daunting for someone without any smartphone experience at all. The 5-inch screen is fine for most uses. The blue flashing notification LED whenever there is a new message (e.g. text) is a great additional function that no other smartphones have, apart from Blackberrys. I bought a separate TPU Emporia case (from their online shop) for extra protection – it makes the phone a bit heavier and bulkier but is still much better than the cheaper flimsy generic covers (got one of these from Amazon and have decided not to use it). Customer service can be contacted by email for assistance.Less good: you can decrease the font size of any function associated with the Android operating system, but the main Emporia font size is rather large (though lots of people may like this anyway) and cannot be reduced. The phone battery takes a relatively long time to recharge. The camera is adequate for taking photos, but certainly not great.All in all, a nifty phone. If you want just a simple and user-friendly phone, it does that well. If you want bells and whistles, it has that too.

Personally it would have been better to have brought a normal smart phone,Bought this for my husband who is not tech minded. It is not easy to set up and not easy for him to use, Being that he is able to use a tablet, i might as well got a ordinary cheaper smart phone.This is an expensive gimmick.

Didn’t like

I bought this for my daughter (12) and for my cousin ( 63), both of whom have special needs. In both cases the phone has been a great success, opening up the world of smartphones to those who would otherwise not be able to access such technology. The phone is simple to use. It's not perfect but it is accessable and that has to be the salient point, so I personally forgive it's glitches. I love the emergency button feature but it's the simplicity that makes it ideal for those who need a little extra help in life

Faulty - am returning as cuts off in the middle of things. This is now the 3rd Emperor mobile that is doing this! And the disabled relief aspect. I did warn you Amazon.

Everything looks good with a super instruction manual but the charger pins are too close together and it doesn’t fit a UK socket as you can see. I have loads of plug adapters for travel but nothing remotely like this.
