Easily the best Channellock tool I've ever received
I've never had much luck buying US made hand tools on Amazon. It was almost like the manufacturers were sending Amazon and the big box stores their factory seconds and sending their best products to those small shops that deal directly with the tradesmen. In particular, I find that when I purchase USA made pliers (won't mention brands) from Amazon or HD, there is always slop or play in the pivot, resulting in handle wobble. However, when I purchase the exact same tool for a bit more from an electrical supply store in my area, there's never any play or slop in the pivot. Anyways, this little gem is the exception to that rule. There is absolutely no wobble in the pivot, nice and tight. Even the machining is excellent on this one, and that has been the bane of Channellock's existence for a few years now...........the lack of finishing. As you can see from the pics, the jaws close tightly and no light bleeds through. There is no gap at the bottom of the cutting area so you can feed a small wire down to the bottom of the jaws and it actually cuts! I have no idea why so many manufacturers, including some excellent Japanese manufacturers, have that gap at the bottom of the cutters closest to the pivot. This is the point of maximum leverage so please stop putting a gap there.I think Channellock discontinued this 436 and the 437, their tapered nose cutters. These are not high leverage but they are indispensable for reaching into a tight area or trying to cut something that is flush up against something else (pointy nose is needed for this). For some reason, Channellock decided to go all in on their "high leverage" cutters with the blunt ends. I mean those are great cutters and I own them, but you have to make the tapered nose as well. Fortunately, Amazon came into a limited stock of these, which sold out in a few hours. Alexa gave me a heads up they were available. The ones I received were manufactured in September 2020 (It says 9/20 on the back of the packaging) so I guess they were making them at least until the early 2020's but they are no longer listed on Chanellock's website. It's a pity if they did stop making these as these are the best Channellocks I own from a machining and tolerances perspective. Really great tool.
