Seymour 2E-AE2 8 1/2" X 7 3/4" Grub Hoe
The now-China-made Seymour 2E-AE2 is the widest and also the “least tall” eye hoe I could find, which is just what I wanted for building and maintaining fruit tree wells, including those on slopes, and for weeding in my flat garden plot. The width is 7 3/4" and the overall height is 8 1/2". I also own a taller, narrower and much heavier grub hoe that I use regularly for tough weeds like thistles, large milkweed, tumbleweeds, and some gnarly clump grasses, but this tool is just too heavy, narrow and awkward for the work I do easily with the 2E-AE2. Back to the 2E-AE2, it is significantly heavier and more aggressive than a typical garden hoe, but I would not buy it for use as a “Forest Adze” or “Hazel Hoe”, since, IMO, it is too “light” for this application in any but the loosest soils. I also purchased the 54” hardwood handle for the 2E-AE2. I’m guessing it’s ash, and it is strong, straight and well turned, with a nice sealer coat already applied. It fits well and it was easy to put the head on this handle. I would actually prefer a longer handle, but 54” works better than a shorter one, as I use the tool. I highly recommend this tool for the uses to which I put it; YMMV beyond these.

The joy of grubbing
Cleared a garden area from sodded dirt, weeds, a few stumps, shooters and roots. The work went quickly using the Seymour 2E-AE2 grub hoe for cutting through the sod and turning the soil. Employing a 2-1/2 lb mattock as needed to clear the stumps, shooters and roots, which I can swing with one arm while grasping the shooter with the other hand and pulling the things out by the roots. Also made short work of three small stumps with mattock. Other than that the Seymour grub hoe easily cruised through the job using a side stance instead of a front stance and the 54" handle seemed just about the right length for my 6' frame, but the swing seemed awkward from the facing front posture. The Seymour handle I got from Amazon was a perfect fit and is made to an excellent quality. I did all that work with the grub hoe in about 15 minutes, and it probably would have taken me over an hour with twice the effort using a shovel. This buy was a real bargain.

Superb hoe
I love this tool. Finding a handle was a little difficult and the only place I could find one was on Amazon. The handle (bought separately) was a little small, but I intended to epoxy it in as well as screw it on. There is a hole to pin or screw the hoe to the handle. I used a stainless steel screw for strength and longevity. The ends of the hoe were sharpened, but I would suggest sharpening the center as well. Works a little better that way. I have always seen these used in the rice paddies in China. I don't know why they have not caught on here, they are such great hoes. I am glad I could find one on amazon.

10/10 Perfect tool ever - Solid and good weight - Great workmanship - built with pride
10 Stars - I couldn't ask for better workmanship. The weight is perfect for tough roots. I have used it to cut 3/4 inch roots and it doesn't bend on the cutting edge. I have not sharpened it yet. I used it as it came. The drilled screw hole on the side makes it easier for adding a steady handle. I have used Garden hoes since the edge of 10yrs old.Priced right too. This is perfect - Thank you so much

First Impressions
My Seymour Garden -oe Head arrived in the mail yesterday. It appears to be very well built, sturdy and I expect it to last a long time. The eye hole for the handle is 1 5/8" on one side and 1 3/4" on the other with a Philips head screw to help hold the handle in place. I plan on making a handle from a small tree on my property.Packaging left a little to be desired. The Garden -oe Head is sharp enough to cut through the tape holding the box together. The sharp edge blade was sticking out of the box.I had to spell -oe that way because of Amazon's bad word filter even though it's the name of the tool.

Good quality & Very heavy duty hoe.
Perfect heavy duty hoe. Some people are complaining about that they can find a handle for it. Lol I when to my backyard in just 30 seconds I found a nut tree and it toke me 15 minutes to have it ready and fit perfectly. I will now let it dry a couple of days before I put some varnish. Just be creative and think outside the box.

Great for digging and scraping, needs a rubber shim to fit standard shovel handle size
The forged eye hoe itself is excellent quality in my opinion. The only disadvantage of buying this product is the fact that the eye hole size is much bigger than a standard replacement shovel size. My best tip is to use some thin rubber matting as a shim. Wrap a 1 inch strip of the rubber the same diameter as the shovel. Then, wiggle the eye hoe on to the rubber, and hammer in the rubber if necessary. This creates a perfect shim. Friction from the rubber matting keeps the eye hoe from moving anywhere. Once I figured out this rubber matting as shim hack I was very pleased with this product.

It is a good Chinese style of hoe.
Very useful for any gardening work. I can install it on a thick tree branch stick.
