Fun to build and extra fun to paint
This is a fine model. I've worked on mine for days and I'd say this one is targeted at a little-above-average builder. The pieces come together really well, I didn't have to do much filling/sanding. It comes with a really good set of decals. The good: Overall the model looks great, especially for the price tag. It has enough pieces to be fun to glue and has a lot of paint work, too. I'd say assembly is easy and paint is middle-hard. I had an awful lot of fun painting the instrument panel with all those minuscule dials. External painting is also challenging, as you can see by the photo, especially the propeller head. Some masking is required. The not-so-good: Cockpit gave me mixed feelings. At a first moment I was a bit disappointed that it had the side panels printed on the sides of the body, without a lot of details, but in the end it comes along ok. There seems to be some inconsistency in the level of details among parts. While some are incredibly detailed (instrument panel, ammo, landing gear box), others lack (side panels, engine). The ugly: I didn't want to say that, but the checkerboard decal was really really hard to put on. Not sure if there would be alternatives, though.

Great Model to Start With
My middle school aged son wanted to try and complete a model for the first time and chose this one. It is the perfect mix of challenging and easy enough to do and he is loving working on it. Only thing to note is that you do need to buy your own model glue. The kit does NOT come with it.

Built this as a confidacne booster - it was a great choice!
I chose this model because I needed a confidence booster after I built the German Focke Wulf ( Revell Focke Wulf FW 200 C-5/ C-8 Condor ). The P-51, to me, is a classic US war plane. Second only to the F-4 gull-wing Corsair from WWII (which I also built, see photo). The Corsair was the first model I built since my pre-teen years, and that was quite a long time ago. Back to the P-51 ... I had a lot of fun with this build. Not too many parts so I really tried to focus on taking my time. As with all the models I am building, I try to keep close to the recommended paint scheme but using what paint I have on hand. The pilot can come out and the canopy do open and close, and the prop turns. There were decals for two or three set ups, I sort of combined all of them. I think that an intermediate would have no trouble with this - easy build but lots of fun.

Excellent model for all ages
Excellent price and excellent model. It was a pleasure to put together. I highly recommend this model. I am a recent retiree, and I have always had an interest in World War II air planes. I also never put models together in my youth. So, this was my first model, and I tried to be very particular. It turned out quite well if I do say so myself -- except for the transparent canopy which I got glue on and cracked. The process was fun.

You will not be disappointed!
I'm sure I have already rated this product. BUT, for the benefit of all, I will do it again. Revell has historically produced finely detailed and historically correct models for over 50 years. Some models have two or three versions available in the same box - certainly a cost savings to the modeler. Even though I have not built this model yet, I have examined it closely, and see the same accurate quality that Revell is so famous for. I recommend this model to a beginner, or to an advanced modeler.

very nice Revell Moel. i recommend it highly!
Nice Revell model. Only wished it came in the metal coloring instead of the gray color. i had to paint it three times to get the color right. i guess using testor paints has its draw backs. but that is another story. also wish it came with some additional and different numbering. i am building a flying scene in my basement with a few of these p-51d, a few mf 190's and a few b17g's so different numbering would be great. but if that is all i can complain about then that says a lot about this model. two thumbs up.

A Decent But Not Spectacular Kit
This is the old Monogram kit from 1977 now being punched out in China. Wing to fuselage fit is surprisingly good but the rest will need filler. The exhaust manifolds go on from the inside so once the model is all assembled if you knock one of the exhausts in your screwed. The decals for the BBD have at least six decals that require you to put a decal over a decal which can be tedious. The checkerboard decals require you to make some cuts prior to installing them. Also the red stripe under the olive drab cowl paint is not included. It will have to be painted on by hand. The box cover shows the national insignia on the top left wing which is correct, but the decal placement guide (BBD) shows it on the top right which is incorrect. Raised panel lines and low price/parts count finish up my review.

Great Fun
I know this Revell 51D Mustang model is a "toy" but I bought it for my 55 year old Dad. He's retired and I wanted to give him a new hobby. He loved reading about the plane's history and working on the plane. It filled up a weekend for him, all the parts fit together nicely (after he filed down the edges) and between the gluing and the painting (he did his own custom paint job), it provided him with hours of enjoyment. Now his friends want to get in on the action too. I'd recommend this for any young person or those young at heart that want to flex their building muscles and learn a little bit about our history. Also the model is historically accurate and to scale and looks great (not cheap) once completed/painted. Would make for a nice display once you've done a few of them.

1970年代後半に発売された古いキットです。 表面ラインが凸モールドで、組み立てもつくりづらいですが、 スタイル、雰囲気はよいものをもっています。 じっくり組み立てたい人向けと思います。
