Hiroshima is the only Asian band to receive a Grammy-nomination and they have two. Legacy featured songs from the first 10 years and celebrated the band s 30 years in the industry. Departure, number 18 for the celebrated Hiroshima who has created it s own voice. . . One of the most unique bands in the world, Hiroshima combines traditional Japanese instruments, including koto, taiko and shakuhachi with western instruments and harmony, embracing rhythms ranging from Jazz to Latin and R&B --a blend referred to by famed British producer Robin Millar as Urban World Music. Departure is a new beginning for Hiroshima in many ways. The songs are all originals with just one guest artist, the incredible harmonica player Tetsuya Tex Nakamura, featured on the luscious opening track, Have You Ever Wondered, composed by June and Kimo. Koto Cruise, is the second song and features a funky groove and a burning koto solo. Blues for Sendai is just that. There s a tribute to our friend and mentor James Moody, who passed last December. It s called See You Again, and there is a lot of quoting from his Moody s Mood for Love. After many years of requests, we have recorded our first full-on taiko solo ever, Yamasong --a live recording that really captures Shoji and Danny s fierce interplay. First Nation, a composition by the Hawaiian Kimo Cornwell, is a powerhouse of a song embracing many cultures, as does our reincarnation of Thousand Cranes. The CD ends with a soulful version of One Wish, done as an acoustic trio

World Jazz At It's Finest
This is a wonderful cd for Hiroshima who have been around almost 40 years, Dan Kuramoto never ceases to amaze me time & time again & with June Kuramoto (no relation) they're simply masterful at the art of world jazz. Songs like Have You Ever Wondered with special guest Tetsuya Tex Nakamura on harmonica is haunting, Koto Cruise, Blues For Sendal are magical & the flavorful First Nation make this cd an easy 4 star mark for the album called Departure.

Excellence from Hiroshima
As a fan of Hiroshima for years and a keyboardist I am drawn to their music. Obon, Another Place, and their latest Departure are among my favorites. Hiroshima always does quality work, their mixture of new age/jazz/world music sound is just right and I like it most on their albums when there are no vocals just music as on Departure. Koto Cruise is just my style, even the reworking of their amazing song One Wish is done tastefully, just a different spin on an excellent song, very good album.

They just take me there
I have been a fan of Hiroshima (the Jazz Group)for over 25 years.Their Blend of Light Jazz with alittle Koto harp, Taiko percussion, and flute, always helps take the edge off a crappy long day. They are great live as well. This newest group of tunes is right in the mix of what they do best. You can find all their music on Amazon, where it's getting hard to findout in public music stores.

Expect the changes
Whenever I see a Hiroshima CD, I quickly grab it because I just simply enjoy their music. I've been to several of their concerts and can play their music throughout the day listening to my collection. This particular CD is a "departure" from their regular recording, however I've grown to enjoy it.

No Quality Control
I like the music, but the CD was scratched when I got it. It will only play the first four songs then it gets to the scratch and stops. Good thing I didn't pay much for it. The seller definitely didn't check the quality of this second hand item. Thumbs down.

Excellent Hiroshima
The latest Hiroshima was well worth the wait. It finally contained some of the taiko drums that I love so. The wide selection of new songs is great and I highly recommend this album to any Hiroshima lovers and new fans of Hiroshima. Don't delay and get your copy.

Another great album
I've been a Hiroshima fan since 1979 and this newest album is why. June Kuramoto's distinctive sound is always a treat. Koto Cruise reminds me of her solo in DaDa and the remakes of Thousand Cranes and One Wish are superb. This band is still great even after 30 years!
