I'm a beginner to watercolor, so take from that what you will.I was debating between the travel set and home set, I ended up going with home because of the bag, plus it was only a dollar more for more colors.It came with a clear swatch sheet that matches the layout of the tray, plus the paper one that matches in order, but does not line up. I'm okay with this personally.I was worried about area for mixing, it came with a little mixing pan!The neon colors are sooo bright!I can already tell these are better quality than what I've been working with, the colors are absolutely beautiful.The paper that comes with it is a bit odd since it's short and very wide, but it makes great squares if cut/divided in two.The brush that came with the set doesn't seem to be the greatest as I saw from other reviews, so I got some inexpensive royal & langnickel brushes. The water brush is great though, I love the button - I've used other water brushes and the button is definitely preferred. It's also a higher quality than other water brushes I've tried.The pans DO come out of the plastic, it would be totally possible to glue a magnet to the back of the pans, or take a few and put them in a different tin. The plastic tray can also be removed completely.Overall, very pleased with this set!

I admit I got the 12 colors set because I wanted that green palette. Once I had it in hand, I decided to I was going to remove the existing colors and replace them with my own. Gently prying the cakes out intact (elastic glue holds them down) required extremely *gentle* actions, but all 12 are removeable without damage if you take your time. The plastic insert is delicate though, so take great care as you remove the cakes to avoid tearing the bottom. I saved the cakes for repurposing, and they're nicer than you'd expect at this price. Or you could simply lift out the insert and dissolve the cakes if you want. Refilling from my paint went fine and I look forward to getting it out for plein air. The metal Palette is similar to others, but the plastic inset really lessens its weight. External paint fine. Frankly, if they were to offer a stronger version of the inset alone sans paint, I'd grab a few for my other palettes. Brushes not great, but certainly usable for the job, and I'll be bringing my own and probably repurpose that space. Now, about the watercolors... I was genuinely surprised with by how much pigment they have and how tolerable the amount of filler is, so I've put them into their own mini tin for now. It is not superior student grade or professional quality, but it won't take up much space or load you down. Anyway, if you're looking for a lightweight grab 'n go kit, you won't find one as nice as this at this price easily.
