NOT SPF 50+ not even SPF 30 or 15. The sun shines right through the brim with specks of UV filled rays all over my face. The weave is pathetically loose. I seriously doubt these hats made it through any sort of testing. Those of us with Lupus and other sun sensitive issues expect and need these products to live up to their labels. I'm glad I have a way to test out the UV claims before ending up in the hospital with a bad sun induced flare from sub par products like this.Do not buy this hat for sun protection.

Very nice hat and a great price! Love the comfortable elastic headband for extra security and the strap to toss the hat back and not have to carry. Gives you lots of shade. Rather floppy in high winds but perfect for most days. Glad I made this purchase!

I feel I have been scammed!Bought this hat 1 year ago, and it was my favorite hat. The weave was tight, the brim was thick, it was a solid hat. So when I lost this hat, I decided to by the exact same one again. Boy was I wrong. When hat arrived, it became obvious this is not the same hat. The new hat is flimsy, thin brim, sun comes through the brim and it hurts my head. This hat does not provide 50 SPF. This is clearly not the same hat, they cut down on the quality of material and I am pissed cause I got tricked! To add to the frustration, Amazon charges $10 return fee...not even worth returning it.

Really liked the hat til I wore it one time and then found it had torn. Upon examination, you can see that it is sewn with thread that easily separates. Was going to order a replacement for trip but decided against it fearing I would be sewing my hat together after unpacking it etc. Amazon provides great customer service and helped me get another choice shipped quickly before trip. I wouldn't recommend this if you plan to pack it in handcarry which might pull on the threads if folded in any way. I really liked the design...but very reluctant to pack.

Hat came today and I'm very pleased. Looking through the other reviews AFTER I purchased the hat I was nervous seeing that some people reported a change in quality after purchasing in different years or from the older reviews to the newer ones.I immediately examined the braid and its stitching, the grommets and the shape. Everything looks superb. The color (dark brown) is nearly exactly as my screen shows it and I am not disappointed. It was mailed in a bubble wrap mailer and the crown was depressed a bit but not crushed. No wrinkles permanent or otherwise and it popped up what little compactedness it had instantly.I dont have any loose braids on the crown though I can see one join that though caught in the stitching sticks out just a smidge which I will probably trim slightly but it is on the underside of the brim. The best used as a cinch on the ties is snug and stays where you put it well, though I suppose after some time of use it would probably wear the strap some.The hat has a tag with the size as 22 1/2 inches /Medium. I honestly didnt have an option to pick the size when ordering but my head measures the same (I used my measure tape to verify) at the moment my straight/slightly way by hair is in a single braid so loft isnt affecting the fit. The crown is 7" front to back and 3.5" from the band to the middle of the curve. The brim is exactly 4".As per the SPF rating (and unaware how they calculate that) I have included a picture of my cellphone camera light from the top and bottom side, though the picture from under the brim is a bit blurrier and spread out light than in person.If a person was really concerned about making it completely light impenetrable it wouldn't be much effort to trace around the brim on a piece of fabric and sew with hat matching thread to the edge. You would have to cut a small hole in the middle of fabric covering the crown and stitch to the band. That would be really cute and make it a unique piece.Other than the minor trim of the end (shown in the picture), which in reality is nothing, I am completely satisfied and plan on using this for gardening ro keep my melasma from worsening. For being made in china like most of Amazon's products I'm impressed. If you look hard enough you will find flaws on most anything. Would totally reccomend to my friends.The worst thing 8 could come up with about the hat is that the day I got it I saw the seller upped the price by 9 dollars making the total price just under $40. I suppose that is to be expected for seasonal products some. I only paid $30 and change.

I love this sun hat! I got it to use while in the garden and it's perfect. Good wide brim give great sun protection. Light weight and good quality material. Fits perfectly. I would definitely purchase another.

The hat was cute and had a huge brim, however it started unraveling after one use! The grommet that holds the cord in place fell off and the hat has now torn from the base. Tried calling the manufacturer using the 1-800 telephone number they provide but the number is disconnected. Poor quality and dead beat company :(

(Editing a couple of months later -- I haven't even worn this once. There really is too much light poking through, so I keep going back to my plain cotton hats. It's cute, and if you're not concerned with really getting that UPF 50+ or whatever, this could be a good choice, but I really need something that will block out sunlight.) This is a cute hat (and shipping was fast -- really fast). The brim is wide, and it will definitely give you shade and some protection from the sun. The label claims the hat provides 50+UPF, but when I hold the hat up to light, I can see through the weave. I don't mean that the material is a bit sheer -- I mean, I can see past the stitches and bands of material and see pin-point-sized spots of unblocked light. So I'm not sure how much UV the hat will truly block. (I guess you'll get some ventilation?) That being said, it is absolutely better than nothing and will keep most of the sun off your head, face, and neck. The hat arrived well packaged for shipping but was not itself sealed in plastic, so cleaning at least the liner before wearing would be a good idea. The brim keeps its shape well but does make a rustling or crinkling sound when you move it.

Great hat. A little expensive but it is worth the money. I use it all summer long.

Great hat and cannot fly away!

I ordered this hat because of its SPF 50 rating. I have extreme light sensitivity and I needed to block out the Sun. Although this hat comes with a very nice quality headband and the braided plastic material is likely SPF 50 rated, the weave of the hat most certainly is NOT SPF 50 rated. There is plenty of light that passes through the weave of this hat which means that there's no way its blocking all of the UV rays that it claims too. Perhaps Sloggers outsourcing has resulted in a drop of quality? I will be returning this hat.

unless you don't care how you look, this is not the hat for you. If it is just for gardening, then it's perfect (though it's a little heavy).Definitely not for vacation use. the top of the hat is slightly cone-shaped (unless you want that). I thought it looked funny on me.Colour is also not accurate, I got the beige one, and it arrived looking yellower than photo.

I'm a construction worker and I've been looking for a hat that's not too rigid and could replace my straw hat. This hat covers my head all around my shoulders, clavicle, and my nape. It says it's made with some paper material but nevertheless, it doesn't dissolve in the rain. It's breathable and it keeps me shaded under the sun everywhere I go. I'm going to buy one just for walks in the park with my dog.
