Propet Cliff Walker Medicare/HCPCS Code = A5500 Diabetic Shoe

After many years of not being able to find good looking boots that fitted my foot, I discovered the Propet range of footwear. I have been wearing New Balance for the last 18 years as they were often the only shoes that were both comfortable and in my size, 15, and having a wide foot between a 2E and 4E, 2E being firm and 4E just a little loose. I brought the Propet Cliff Walker Boot 15 3E in both black and brown. I decided to take the black PropetCliff Walker Boots as my only shoes to Sydney, for the bimonthly Nurse's Union Delegates Meeting. First impression, these boots are light, very light in weight. At first I was not impressed with the speed lace connections, when attempting to tie the laces at first, but now I really like this feature, as I can remove the boots very quickly. The first day included flights to Sydney, walking all around Central Sydney, and then meetings, followed by catching up with other delegates from around NSW. So, after spending 18 hours in these boots, I removed them, and I only had a sore left heal, which I still can not believe, as normally spending more then 8 hours on my feet at work, my whole left foot has pain, I was over the moon, as I normally soak my left foot in cold water for a good hour before going to bed. The heal pain was just enough to be noticeable. I spent the next day walking around Sydney, a few hours at the Sydney Powerhouse Museum, flying home and having a family dinner at my mother's. When I finally got home and removed the Propet Cliff Walker boots, I had no foot pain. These boots are very, very comfortable, and if you have trouble with your feet, I highly recommend you try this boot. I am one of those people who, when they find a comfortable pair of shoes, will buy a few pairs, I plan on buying few more pairs of this boot, thats how good they are!

I love this boot! Normally wear a 101/2, 4e, I decided to try a 10 1/2, 5e and it fits great! Could have probably gone, with a 10 4e, as they do run a little long, as stated in several reviews I read, so the 10 1/2 basically is an 11, but it's all good. 5e with gives a little extra room, for my foot to spread out! I wear medically required orthotic insoles and they work well, with this boot, but surprisingly they afford comfort and relief, with the insoles, that come in the boot, without having to replace them with my orthotics, from certain leg and back pain, that I was dealing with, in other boots and shoes, with their regular insoles, which caused me to have to get the medical ones. Good boot! Try it. You will like it!

Propet is fine shoe company that typically makes a very high quality product, even though many of their products like this one are made in China. However, my experience with this particular boot leads me to believe that their quality control is not so good, which is why I'm only giving this product 4 stars, primarily for inconsistent fit. To be specific, I am a large, diabetic man with a very wide and swollen foot making it nearly impossible for me to buy shoes from a regular shoe store, whether brick and mortar or online. Only shoes from specialty medical shoe companies such as Dr. Comfort, Orthofeet, or Apis, known for their extremely wide (up to 14E) and double to triple depth shoes for diabetic and problem feet like mine usually fit me. As you might guess, these specialty shoes typically cost $120-$180 per pair as a rule. These Propet boots only come in 5E width max, but based on reviews of how comfy and big they were, I took a chance and ordered them. I was shocked that they actually fit my very fat and wide foot and are fairly comfortable. I liked them so much, I ordered another pair in black to have as backup, as well as a few other Propet shoes in the same size, 13/5E. When these other shoes arrived, not one of the other pairs, regardless of style, came close to fitting, leading me to believe that this brown boot was clearly cut larger than any other same sized shoe in their line-up, even the same exact boot in a different color! (No, it wasn't mismarked as the length of the brown and black boots were identical, but the brown boot that I'm reveiwing here was easily twice to three times as wide, so it was pattern thing, and this boot would be very, very huge on persons normally wearing a size 13/5E shoe. I hope this isn't confusing, but the fact it fits me is total fluke and I will probably never find this error again. So I'll just enjoy this boot till it wears out as it's much less expensive than my usual medical footwear.

I bought a pair years ago but only wore them for certain occasions. As I aged I developed foot problems. Finding shoes/boots wide enough became a problem. I dug my first pair of these out and they became the most comfortable footwear I owned. They were well worn and a bit hard to identify at first. The new pair (size 9.5 5E) felt good right out of the box. I found that I didn't have to do nearly as much break in as I normally do for any new shoe/boot. So a week later I ordered my third pair. Pair #1 is for yard work. Pair #2 is for dog walking, shopping trips and anything else where I plan to be on my feet. Pair #3 will stay in the box until pair #1 falls apart.

I've been shopping for really comfortable extra-wide boots for more than 30 years and these Propet Cliff Walkers are hands-down the best combination of fit, comfort and price I've ever found. There was no break-in period at all and these finally gave my "dogs" all the room they need to hit the road with super comfort and no pinching or rubbing. I received these the day before a snow, and they were super comfortable right out of the box and I felt great traction and support. The neck opens up nice and wide for easy on/off but the tongue is connected fairly high up the sides of the boot to keep out leaks. The leather was supple and flexible, but I always start off with a little polish for added protection, which these boots soaked in easily. With some new boots you really have to work to get the polish to soak into the leather. In single digit temps, these boots kept me plenty warm but the leather is breathable enough that I did not perspire at all. I just love these and I'm planning to wear them a lot!!

I have a wide (6E) foot and have a hard time finding sufficiently wide shoes. These boots at 5E width are a better fit than the pair of Dunham 6E wide boots I tried previously. Also, compared to the Dunham boots, they have a more substantial sole for outdoor work. PROS: I expected only a few months from these boots, and I got that. They are more of a true "boot" than ones I tried from Dunham and New Balance, both of which had really thin, "sneaker" type soles. These boots seem to be fairly well made, though after wearing them this winter, I am seeing a bit of separation where the sole meets the upper. CONS: These boots are not as roomy as I had hoped, though as mentioned above, they fit the width of my feet better than 6E in Dunham brand. The problem is that after I wear them a few hours, they really start to bind against my little toe on each foot, while the rest of my foot feels pretty good. What I think causes this is that the toe box tapers in very sharply from the widest point. That is more a comment for sizing than a complaint because I knowingly ordered 5E (Propet's widest) when a 6E could have been better. Also, as is often the case in shoes or boots, the factory inserts are simply junk. "CONS" UPDATE (added April 4, 2019): This is just a minor item, which I think has been mentioned elsewhere. The quick lace hooks (top three hooks on each side) bend really easily but have not yet broken. They also have sharp edges which ruin the laces quickly. CONCLUSIONS-COMMENTS: I purchased a pair of SOLE "Everyday" Inserts (size Large - trimmed to fit), which made these boots much more comfortable. On a side note, I have purchased several more pairs of these inserts for my gym shoes and am very pleased. I purchased the Propet boots for just under $70, which seems to be about $30-$40 below normal price. At $70, they met my expectations for lasting through the winter, and I will still get some more wear from them. They worked adequately for me, but I would be less pleased had I paid $100 or more for them. They will never be my favorite boots. I would call them Very Average - thus the 3-Star Rating - and am on the fence about purchasing them again. I bought them to work around the rough, irregular yard, but I do not think I would like them for rough, mountain hiking.

I ordered the men's version of the Propet Cliff Walker Boot because the women's version did not have my size. Before ordering I found more detailed information on Propet, this boot, fit guides, and size and width charts at healthyfeetstore.com. I carefully measured the length and width of my feet and ordered according to the measurements on the charts. The boots fit me perfectly. They are attractive, very well-made and sturdy, although a little heavy. Plenty of toe room, and although they have some arch support and cushioning, I need more so I put my own favorite insoles on top of the removable insoles, and that makes them perfect. The boots have a wide, deep toe box and roominess for orthotic inserts, so I think that's why some reviewers say they run too large. Instead of guessing and sizing up or down, I recommend one go to healthyfeetstore.com, measure your feet, find your inches on their size and width charts, and order the corresponding size to your measurements. I'm wearing these mainly for long walks with the dogs on sidewalks, and so far so good. I'm not an avid hiker and don't walk in rain or snow here, but IMO these boots can withstand rough terrain. Can't speak to their longevity since I haven't worn them long enough. 5 stars for fit, comfort, support, quality, and price.

Make no mistake, these are orthotic shoes. Tons of room in the toe box. I have the 10 5E size. In New Balance Cross Trainers, I where 10.5 4E. These are a bit wider in the toe than they are half way up the foot; which is usually the widest part of the foot. Perfect for a person that has problems down there and needs the space. I don't, just have square feet and can't shop at any Brick & Mortar. I did have to add another insole I took out of a pair of Wolverine Raider Steel toes that weren't wide enough. Wolverine needs to use wider steel caps in their wider shoes; on a side note. These Propets are very comfortable, yet slippery on wet or greasy smooth floors, like a Chinese buffet that won't properly clean up a mess. Look out. But these shoes are meant to be used outside, with ok traction in dirt and loose rocks. No "cliff walking" please. These glorified mid-high top sneakers are great for casual walking and are very supportive doing just that. The top two lace hooks swivel, don't know if that is supposed to happen nor if it's helpful. These boots seem to be made well, but at the time of this review I have only worn then for four 12 hour work days. While no break in was necessary, the verdict on longevity is still a question. The water proofing is more due to design, with minimal seems and a tongue that is sewn very high up inside the boot, than leather treatment. You should water proof them with your choice of proofer before getting wet. If these boots last nine months, I will be happy with the cost of sixty dollars I paid. Long over due update: these shoes don't last. It seems Propet cut the upper shoe crooked or at least glued them to the sole wrong. I don't really care how or why? As they broke in, the shoes got more and more "crooked". Retired them after only 3 months. Not good.

Normally, the only shoe I can find that fits me for width are Dunhams, as I have a measured EEEEEE wide foot. They are excellent shoes, and I also have their light-hiker, but I also wanted something with a thicker tread for rock hiking etc. These Propet's are terrific, and amazingly enough the 5E is almost too wide. I can comfortably wear a second pair of thick socks, and I have not been able to do that before. I have to admit that they did make for some hot spots on the soles of my feet initially, but after wearing them 3 or 4 times, they now fit/feel great. I would definitely buy them again, and I'll also be looking at Propet's other offerings.

Have been getting these boots for years now. I've tried others but have been disappointed and so came back ... When I get a new pair of boots, they are just as comfortable as the old ones. Good support. And I wear them in the workshop as well as the horse paddock. Also great for hiking ... I wear them day in day out ...

My third pair of these boots, this pair has some improvements such as a better look and feel. They are comfortable and a great fit. A little expensive through Amazon Australia. They were cheaper from Amazon US.
