Draw the USA (Draw the World)

Good material, cheap publishing
The content of this book is really great! My kids enjoy it and it is an excellent addition to our homeschool geography. The printing quality and graphics are not as good. It looks like the computer used was 20 years old (I do realize this was written 9 years ago). If I paid $10 for it, then that would be an appropriate price. $20 is too much. Finding this used would be a good idea.

Great series of books
We have been using books from this series to supplement our geography curriculum. Highly recommend!

It serves the purpose that we need
We use this book as apart of our homeschool geography and thus far, it serves the purpose that I've needed. It helps a child to see, say, and write (draw) the names and locations of the states to have the best memory retention. We do 4 pages, 1 day per week plus review f each state's name and abbreviation. It has helped my 7 year to really remember the US map and general locations of states. My only wish is that major landforms such as mountain ranges and large rivers like the Mississippi and Missouri were included, even if as an appendix with state's capitals.

Awesome!
Such a great book! Detailed instructions for drawing the USA. I would highly recommend this for any child that loves to draw, loves geography or a CC student.

Geography class
My 10 year old is using this book and really enjoys it. He adds a state or two a day and his map is taking shape nicely. This is a genius way to gain a sense of where each state is and their basic shape. I will look for more when he finishes this one. Also of note, I think I needed this book at age 10!

Makes a Daunting Task Easy!
Fantastic resource! We used it as a summer project for our homeschooling last summer, and I was impressed by how well the directions "stuck" in our heads. The directions are simple enough that my eight-year-old was able to follow them all the way through and draw the U.S. in one sitting, but it was very useful as a directed activity for both her and my seven-year-old son. My five-year-old was a little young for this, so instead of drawing from memory, or free-hand, she traced the map a piece at a time, which worked well.We also liked varying the way we drew it; if it was nice outside, I sometimes had them draw in in sidewalk chalk on the driveway.

This author should pretty much just take all my money! Ha!
Classical conversations and Homeschooling mom here! Even if you don't do CC these books are simply amazing! In premise the idea is simple: step by step instruction on how to draw whatever the subject geography is at hand. Well, they are explained so much better than little ol' me could do and they make it totally fun! I have high expectations for our next three years using these books as we approach challenge A. Like I said, though, curriculum type aside these are wonderful! A huge percentage of American HS grads cannot find NYC on a map. Tools like this will help ensure our grads, whether homeschooled or other, will not be part of that statistical fact! Highly recommend!

Will do the job, but wish there were more to it
For what it is, this is a good book. That said the price seems steep for what you get. I also bought Mapping The World With Art by Ellen McHenry (book on CD and DVDs from her website) which for just a few dollars more has a LOT more to offer. In addition to teaching a way to draw the whole world (granted, without all country borders) it includes a two-page history for each lesson and a slew of activities and games to accompany the drawing lessons). Overall, I think we'll get a lot more out of Mapping The World With Art, but I wanted to teach my child where all of the states in the US are (something McHenry's program doesn't do) so purchased this also.
