- Poush Parbon is a Festival of Food celebrated by Bengalis on the occasion of the arrival of New Rice from middle of December to middle of January. Traditionally, this month long festival begins with Nabanna (Bengali harvest celebration) and ends with Makar Sankranti (celebrated with Pithe).
- The new rice is first offered to the god (family deity) and to Sun God praying for good crop in coming year. Maa Lakshmi is also worshiped and sweets made of harvested new rice, specially Gobindo Bhog variety , Khejur Gur (Date Palm Jaggery), Nolen Gur (Liquid New Jaggery), sweet potatoes, Sona Moong Dal and fresh coconut is offered. Thereafter, the family feast used to commence and each house smells of Pithe-Puli-Payesh-Patisapta & flavours of Nolen Gur (New Jaggery).
