THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT VALUE COMPARED TO BUYING THINGS SEPERATELY. BOB ROSS PAINTS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN SOME OTHERS BUT HAVE A UNIQUE QUALITY TO THEM IN AS MUCH AS THEY CAN BE THINNED RELATIVELY EASILY, AND ARE EXCELLENT FOR HIS FAMOUS BOB ROSS WET ON WET TECHNIQUES! BE PREPARED TO PRACTICE AND GET ADDICTED!!

I had never painted before. EVER. After watching countless Bob Ross episodes, simply for the mental massage it provides, I finally decided to pull the trigger on this inexpensive kit. I'll give my impression, but keep in my I have literally NO frame of reference. I thought the paints were great! They seems thick and easy to use. I didn't have a palette, so I actually used a piece of cardboard, which wasn't ideal, but worked. I didn't have an easel either, so my kitchen table covered in paper towels became my art studio. I picked up a couple 11" x 14" pre-stretched canvases, and went to town. After applying the liquid white in a thin coat, I picked up a bit of phthalo blue on my 1" brush, and started in on my sky. And went about half way down the canvas, leaving some light cloudy areas, and BOOM - Beautiful blue sky! I put a bit of titanium white on my cardboard palette, and this is when I realized I was in trouble. I had no way to clean my brush! I did my best with some water (doesn't work) and even nail polish remover (doesn't work and smells horrible), and of course rubbed as much as I could off on some paper towels. I decided to go for it anyway. I loaded up a bit of white, and went in to create my happy, free clouds that just play all day up in the sky. They came out pretty good. I was impressed with it. I went on to try and create a nice landscape with trees and brush. This didn't work out so well. With all the blue and white on the brush, there was just not much I could do. I ended up blending the whole canvas together in one big mess, grabbing my knife, and trying my hand at some mountains. My painting, in the end, was not what I was expecting at all, but I was still very happy with it. I've since put in an order for a 2" brush, a number 6 fan brush, and some odorless thinner. I can't wait to start my second painting! Highly recommend this set, just be sure to pick up the few extras!
