Authentic!
At last I found an Italian reader that's the real McCoy, not flat, adolescent writing "translated" (and maybe badly) into different languages. This story was not oversimplified but very easy to read. It is real Italian too, and I can feel the difference after suffering through other books sold here on Amazon.I wish I had found Ognibene earlier. I ran through this one in two days and will buy at least one more, out of gratitude.

Great story - great learning tool
This is the second book by Sonia Ognibene that my Italian teacher and I have read together. As we did with Non Puoi Essere Tu, each week we start out with a brief discussion of what happened in the previous chapter. Next, I read a chapter out loud so we can work on pronunciations and then I translate, asking questions which he fully explains. At the end of the chapter, he will ask me questions or ask me to summarize what transpired. We both really enjoy this format and I've learned so much. The story of Verità Sepolte was a compelling story with entertaining characters and we laughed out loud at various points. Next up is Sarai Mio. I don't know what I'll do when we finish the 4th book -- I hope by then Sonia adds another to the collection. Please!

Real Criminal Novel
Verita Sepolte (The Burried Truth) written by Sonia Ognibene is a real criminal novel which begins with the crime, sets a series of events and motives that require investigation, reveals interesting characters and at the end leads reader toward a reveal and resolution. Reader will be pulled into the drama immediately starting at the first chapter. Written in the best traditions of criminal stories of Sherlock Holmes it was difficult for me to guess who committed the crime. It is obvious that the author is excited about criminal stories and creates puzzling and dynamic characters.Book is an excellent tool for anybody who wants to improve the knowledge of Italian language, it is written for students at A2-B1 level and includes Police Dictionary, idiomatic expressions and summary at the end of each chapter. It was difficult for me to put this book down. I am looking forward to read more criminal novels written by this author.

More mature story from this author
This is the fourth story in this series and it was my favorite. Unlike the previous 3, this one deals with fully mature adults going about their work lives and dealing with adult problems. The main character is a smart detective who has to deal with some very strange people and very unpleasant situations. There are unpleasant sexual and homosexual references, ridiculously rude people, secretive and lying suspects, and even an old friend who hides things. All this gives the detective a chance to show how smart she is, and trying to work out the clues helps maintain interest as you try to learn the language.

A Great Way to Improve Your Italian
The plot in Verità Sepolte takes more twists and turns than the road through the famous Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps. But the author, Sonia Ognibene, is an expert driver who transports you nonstop from one end to the other of this exciting journey. I found this an extremely satisfying book both as a reader who enjoys mysteries, and as an intermediate student of the Italian language looking to improve his reading and speaking skills.

An interesting story and appropriate language level
This series of books by Sonia Ognibene has been a very helpful find for me. They are at a level I can read without being too easy, and they have good interesting story lines. This one is her 4th book of the series, but actually the 5th I've read (I went slightly out of order). She has some definitions of a few specialty words in the beginning of the book, which was helpful.I'm not certain if Ms. Ognibene's writing is getting even better with each story (possible) or if the stories seem better because I'm able to understand written Italian better with each book (even more likely), but the 4th & 5th seem like her best ones yet. This story involves a police detective working on a case. The characters seem believable, reminding me of people that I have met. I found the writing engaging, and her chapter summaries are helpful.

Well written for beginners of Italian.
I love this book.. I have not yet finished it but I will certainly be looking for another book similar when I do finish it. It is perfect for people studying Italian and have a little knowledge of the language A2/B1. It is very easy to follow and gives explanations of more difficult sentences. Also the story is interesting enough to make you want to read more.

A good crime story / “giallo”
A good short story with lots of useful phrases for A2/B1 level students such as myself. The storyline held my interest with few of the absurdities that can spoil other ‘easy readers’.
