Q: How do you connect main internal body strut to bike frame strut assembly - seems to be putting large round piece into squate hole?

The "main internal body strut" refers to the square rod that is already inserted in the body of the cat. That square rod is placed into the square hole on the (top back side) bike frame surrounded by Velcro. If you are referring to the round support pole with a nipple on the top...that rod is inserted into the thick round fiberglass hub that sits between the bike wheels. Yes, it does. It has a spike that is about 5 1/2" and the pole is about 27".

Q: is the cat a type of metal or something more like cardboard material ?

The cat is made out of a durable Cloth material. It’s kind of stiff. It may be a kind of polyester type. The stakes it sits on are plastic and because it’s all lightweight, the wheelS spin with very little wind. Mine has been rained on a lot and it looks great and it’s really very cute. It moves just all the time with very little wind.
