Due to changes by the manufacturer, the embroidered strap may come with a magnetic or Velcro closure and the shade of color may vary.

is there any room for writing on each page?

I'm about 99% sure there isn't. I gave it as a gift and even filled it with photos. I don't recall any room to write.

It can be opened and it will stand up both horizontally and vertically but it's really not designed to display pictures in that manner. You can stand it up on a table but the pages will run together instead of staying on one specific photo for display.
