Does anyone know how I can convert a cross ballpoint (tech2) to a gel?

No, but you may want to think about that very carefully. Many gel pens and even a few roller ball pens leak if you subject them to reduced air pressure for a couple of hours, such as you experience on any airplane that is not a 787, which has a much higher level of pressurization. I've cleaned ink out of more than a few cases and thrown away several slacks and shirts due to that error on my part. And those were with top of the Parker gel pens. I went back to the ball pens because of it. My Cross has never leaked on me, figuratively or literally.
