Q: Is this game different enough from Resistance to merit buying both?

Coup is a better "opener". It's more accessible, less complicated, fewer pieces, takes less time, and works better either for the first game of the night, or for introducing to non-gamers. The Resistance is more of a second game, when everyone is settled.

Q: Is this fun to play with only two players?

Coup is fun with 3. Best with 4 or 5, and still not bad with 6 even though the best says up to 5 players. You could still have a great time with 3, but you probably will miss out on some of the deeper strategies that were intended for the game.

Q: How is "Coup" pronounced? Is it pronounced like 'coo', or 'coop'?

It is pronounced 'coo' and you will be corrected if said the other way by experienced players like I have been on several occasions.
