Made a huge difference with my bikes braking performance!

About these brake pads because my brake pads were breaking off small flakes of aluminum and embedding in my brake pads. I read an online article that said salmon colored brake pads would fix the problem. The article was correct, these brake pads do not break off small flakes of aluminum off of my rims. The only reason I gave it four stars is that I've had a hard time stopping brake squeal. I've had to shave away part of the pad with my knife and set what seems to be a proper angle. And for the most part, my brakes no longer squeal except for when I come to a complete stop. Even then the squeal is very minor.

The biggest benefit of these pads are that they are thin enough to fit and provide ample operational space inside narrow forks like on my classic steel Pinarello cyclocross frame. I've been using Kool Stop pads for over two decades both on MTB and CX bikes and they are in a way a golden standard for a functional, high quality, affordable and durable brake pad. There is nothing exotic about them. They are simply a good design that doesn't need much change. The only drawback is that these thinner pads will not last very long, especially in rain and dirt. I ride about 7,000 miles/year and I could go through a pair in 3 months.

These have been my go to brakes since the 80s.

I’ve gone through, no joke, five sets of these. I cannot get them to stop howling on my bike. I’ve done all the bike shop tricks. Sanded the pads slightly. Cleaned the rim, even with my new Velocity rims I built up they squeak and howl. Running them on Paul cantilever brakes.
