This thing is awesome! Does what it says for sure. It uses 2 aaa batteries so when it dies we just change out the rechargeables and the fun doesn't stop. I won't let the kids change the batteries because those screws would be easy to strip on tightening. DON'T PICK UP BY THE TAIL. I'm not saying it's flimsy but the pivots aren't designed to take the stress. They could make it out of titanium but then it would be $300.00 and out of my price range. For what I paid, me and the cats think it's one of the best investments I've made of late. Is five stars too much? Yup shark shark has some be a little careful issues but all in all knowing that it's great fun.

My 5 year old son sleeps with this shark. I imagine the designers had a tough time coming up with a recommended age for this toy. My kids only are allowed to use it in the bathtub, but they love it anyway. Obviously, a younger child should not be allowed to use this unsupervised near a pool or open water. Also, the battery compartments require jewler's screwdrivers and a delicate touch. And the remote is not waterproof. All of these would lead to making this appropriate for older kids. But oh, how my son loves it. He squeals with delight as he tries to capsize a hapless Lego pirate in a rowboat and takes care to dry the shark off after use. If you have a young child who loves sea creatures and you're willing to closely supervise him/her, then this is perfect.

I wish I could give it a MINUS rating. This is the second one I bought for my 7 year old grandson. First one was from a large well known store. That one did not work at all. RETURNED! Second I got through this site. Worked ONE time. I thought switch had been left on and went to change the batteries (VERY DIFFICULT TO DO) and saw rust ! ???? Cleaned it up, put new batteries in and placed it in th water. NOTHING!!! Again with much difficulty opened up the battery area in the shark and rust an corrosion through out the area. All batteries were brand new. There is not a protective seal keeping water out of that compartment. AND, after all this time shark still falls apart prior to getting placed in water. Very poor quality.
