Q: So can we talk about the inside and mold potential? anyone cut one of these open?

They break apart and the instructions say to break them open ( pull them apart) after using so they can dry. So zero mold problems here!!

Q: Does anybody know the theory/principle behind this? Hoping to do for science project.

You can get the same effect with a straw in a glass of water. Insert straw, put finger over top, pull straw out and voila, water stays in the straw. I honestly couldn't get specific with the science of why this works, but it's something to do with air pressure. A quick Google search of "why does water stay in a straw" will get you more physics forums than you know what to do with, any of which could explain much better than I can, :D

Q: Would this float, say if we wanted to bring it to the pool? Or does it fill very quickly and sink?

It does float. The cloud will only fill with water if you hold it under water and allow it to fill up. As far as sinking when it is full I remember it still floating because of the hole on top. I may be wrong though.

Q: What is the material? Is it listed as BPA free?

Yes, the manufacturer's site lists it as BPA-free, phthalate-free, and latex-free. It's a sturdy, durable plastic.
