Personal and moving
My father gave me this book in 1981 after he was interviewed by Barbara Walters for his role in it. Not an easy tale for a daughter to read, it is a remarkable vision of life in Hollywood and survival through love, pain, and addiction. He was fond of both the story and the heroine, and the memory sustained him. The book was made into a movie, A Cry for Love with Susan Blakely and Powers Boothe, but the words are what remain.

Yes, read this. You won't regret the few hours spent.
I read this when it first came out. I don't think I've ever connected as completely with a memoir, before or since. Genuine, raw, but ultimately an honest first-person portrayal of love and addiction, betrayal, hope, all those words which probably ought to be capitalized. If you weren't around in the early 1970s, you should read it as a window into that life. If you were, read it as a mirror.
