Cool garage band from the Pacific NW
A generous sample of the Northwest garage-band explosion of the early 60's-this CD combines two of the Wailers' three long players, combined with bonus tracks. Sound is fine for vintage mono recordings-the live album "At The Castle" is thrilling, though the crowd was not properly miked. Unlike their peers (Paul Revere & The Raiders, Mojo WorkoutLouie Louie / Very Best Kingsmen, Sonics, etc.), the Wailers were modeled after the R&B revues of the era, such as Ike & Tina Turner (with the Ikettes and the Kings of Rhythm) or the Johnny Otis Show. The core band was usually joined by vocalist Gail Harris (13 at the time of the Castle session but she sounded like Mrs. Turner) and the female teen vocal group the Marshans. Most of the original tunes were instrumentals, though Kent Morrill and Rockin' Robin Roberts were good singers. The girls specialized in R&B covers. The group had, like Revere, excellent business skills-promoting their own performances and issuing 45's on their own Etiquette label. This collection includes two versions of the hit "Tall Cool One", and a Rockin' Robin voiced version of Louie, Louie. The 16-page book is filled with group interviews and small photos. Could have used more than one photo of the Spanish Castle. Well recommended.

Rock and Roll In The True Sense
I just, basically, recently discovered this band.I knew their song "Tall Cool One" from back in the day but had no idea whatsoever that these guys were as great as they are.And great is not a word to be thrown around and that I throw around. There is just so much FEELING in their music, completely pedal-to-the-metal,engaged musicians who love making music.Lots of reviews say that without this band, garage rock wouldn't have existed and The Kingsmen wouldn't have had a career. From doing some research,I think those statements are accurate. These guys were wired to something the same way John,Paul,George and Ringo were. The Universe lined the stars up in such a way that this INCREDIBLE music happened.I'm a guitarist.I was 9 years old when "Heartbreak Hotel" came out,all to say that I grew up with Rock and Roll.I love bands like The Duals("Stick Shift"), The Belairs("Mr.Moto"),The Rondells("Back Beat No.1"),to name three favorites.Suddenly, there's a new gang in town and I have gone to Heaven again. If you want NO POSTURING/NO RECORD INDUSTRY SLICKNESS music, the real deal, guys totally enjoying themselves, music that never enters a low level, get into this band.Inspirational is the right word for this music, saying the least. It kicks and explodes....right from theirhearts.

The best version of "Louie Louie"
The best version of "Louie Louie". No band of that era could beat the Wailers in the Pacific NorthWest, although the Sonics came damn close. This was the original version of "Louie Louie" that rocked the dance halls up and down the Pacific Coast.Every tune on this CD will get you rockin'. Plus you get two original albums in one package--how can you lose.

You Be Mad At Me !
