SonyVPL-VW1000ES 4K Home Theater ES Projector (2012 Model)

I experienced this during a private demonstration at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) this year. Sony gave a very nice pitch that since most movies are filmed in 4k or higher, getting content to a 4k media server is going to be coming "very soon". Sony demonstrated two forms of content. The first format was a James Bond trailer for their upcoming movie, directly from a 4k server. It was flawless, and in fact if you pay too close attention to the details, you really can see too much with the picture. Regardless, the action on the movie trailer was almost straight out from the theater.The second format presented was a clip from a Tony Bennett concert on Blu Ray up-scaled to 4k. I did not see much of a difference between the up-scaled version and watching it on a regular 1080p projector. I currently have a Sony VPLHW30ES projecting on a 170" diagonal screen.My major disappointment? CONTENT. It's very nice that we're embarking on the Ultra HD / 4K avenue of television, but it would be hard for the average consumer to justify spending this price unless you are creating your own content. Apple did not release the iPod without content to go along with it -- so unless you are shooting, editing, or doing private screenings of your own 4k content, I say wait it out until the prices drop below $5k.

We work with a lot of fixtures for projecting media during events.4k projectors are necesarry for live outdoor events that are in need of video projection. The art is called projection mapping and its becoming more and more popular.The 4k projection bulbs are extremely bright and strong. How bright? Well in England, a 360 foot high building was used as the screen while 16 projectors were set up over 900 feet away. The images are stunning. The video is available at online just search "Deadmau5 London"A handfull of companies are turning to Projection Mapping for advertising. Displaying eye catching imagery on theyre store fronts via a 4k projector set up somewhere in the distance luminating the entire building. A local San Diegan is one example of someone to call if you need your venue to have a little extra spice. You can also see lots of videos of his work by searching "seeper"This technology is slowly becoming more and more affordable and is being utilized more frequently for practical purposes such as the aforementioned. Anyone who is considering swapping out theyre home projector for on of these to get a little better picture at the house to watch sports center, the technology isnt there yet because tv is not broadcasted in resolutions that high. Sorry, your stuck with 1080i and will be so for many many years to come. The same holds true for video games and movie projection.Unless you are in NEED of this device for a job or event and you have adequate media to run on it already in hand, youd be better off renting out a theater for the day and would probably save money.The sad truth is that anyone who is reading this right now. Has no need for this product

My friend just got this same projector(not from amazon) and he is in love with it. Of corse it is a nice picture. The problem is NOTHING is available in 4k. Nothing on disk nothing streaming just nothing. A 4k movie would take like 6-8 blue ray disks. There is ONE 4 k move out there, the new 007 skyfall. I guess you can rent it though Sony but the wait list is like a year or more. It comes on a hard drive that is like a few terrabytes.Long story short is it is awesome but similar to owning a blu ray player and only using DVD discs on it.My buddy has lots of money, but why jump on the 4k bandwagon before the wagon has any horses to pull it!?

I picked up one of these beauties for my cat's apartment and it keeps their attention for up to several minutes every day. Unadvertised bonus: makes a great scratching post. If you have a table that's not level, these things fit perfectly under the leg to straighten things out. I also found they make great boat anchors for my 200 foot yacht when the gold block anchors that I usually use get stuck on the bottom and I have to cut them loose. Bottom line is this, instead of wiping your butt with the 25k, go ahead and pick up one of these and you will be glad you did!

I don't know how I could tolerate watching film and television with less than 4000 pixels. It's like I was a caveman or something, am I right? Now that this puppy is coming in for less than 25 grand, I suggest you pick up a few. I considered purchasing a movie theater so I could watch my movies in privacy on a big screen. Compare several million dollars for an unsightly movie theater versus the 100K I paid for four of these stealth looking projectors. Now I can enjoy the big screen in my home theater, on my 231 foot yatch, in the home theater at my summer home, and or course, in my master bathroom. What a steal! If you can't afford to spend 25k on a projector right now, that's understandable. Like everyone else, some of my high risk business ventures have taken a hit in our current economy. Don't worry though, I'm sure the price will drop below 10k before long! At that point I can only assume it will be well within the budget of all Americans.

I bough two of these. One to break in front of poor people and the other one to watch adult films. Nothing says 4k like a 6 foot beaver closeup.

Amazing picture, but no content available. I agree with the other posts that they should have been more prepared before releasing it. Will have to wait and see what they offer. If you are a movie lover this is the newest monster available and if you got the coin and you can keep it from your wife, I suggest you order one today. Stunning picture. Fun to operate with sonys google, kids have a blast.
